Who Am I?

Hrrmm... That's a good question. Just think of me as someone who is just adding meaningless content to this thing we call the World Wide Web. I write my thoughts on this page as more therapy than anything. If you read it that is cool. Any comments, I would love to hear them. Just don't expect any meaningful replies. Outside of that it is non of your fucking business who I am. Maybe you come here to download shit. Maybe you come here to read shit. I could not give two flying fucks.

Cheers, Demerzal

To All You Language / Linux Freaks out there!!

Posted by Demerzal on Thursday, Aug. 30th 2001 @ 4:32PM

I write software for a living. Most of the stuff I write is used for business applications. I primarily do development in Java, but I prefer doing Python development. Why Python? Much cleaner syntax. ENFORCED structured coding, which makes it easy to read someones code. Again, these are just my personal preferences. I am not here to get into flame war over which language is better. But I will say this. If you are stupid enough to believe that one language is the end all be all, then you are just deluding yourself. Programming laguages are tools, nothing more, nothing less! They are not you! You are not defined by the programming language that you use (Perl Mongers?? What the fuck is that!!). Again these things that we use in everyday life are just machines and the instructions that run them. Give it a fucking rest already.

Especially you Linux freaks out there! And before anyone fucking goes off on me regarding Linux or whatever, I use it everyday. It is a very good OS for what it is good at. But lets get something straight! It is just some code, not a religion. It runs machines efficiently, not as efficiently as FreeBSD but that is another topic, and is generally ok. But the shit is well over 20 years old. This is not an advance in computing technology but a regression to antiquity. Though it does shed some light on the lack of innovation within the computing industry, Linux included.

Yes I said it, NO INNOVATION!! As a matter of fact, computing is starting to get very boring. If I have to write one more fucking JavaBean that models some kind of business function I think that I am going to give up development. Some of the tools that we have at our disposal are just useless.

Recently, a company I was going to work for was looking for Java developers that have experience using a certain company's application server. Funny thing was that the ad did not explain what you would actually be doing with the application server, just that you had to have "experience" working with it. Well is turns out that the consulting company that I was going to work for was actually brought in by the unamed company (BEA) to fix their own product (Weblogic). Now isn't that fucked up! I have to say that I turned them down at the time because they did not want to pay me enough, but I would have loved to see what needed a fixn'. What's even funnier is the fact that most companies that purchase a web application server end up only using a fraction of its functionality. I can't tell you how many times I go to companies for interviews and they explain to me that we are using an application server (WebLogic, WebSphere, ATG Dynamo) but we are really re-evaluating our relationship with these products. In laymans terms this means that we fucked up, bought into the marketing hype, spent shitloads of tech boom cash on a product that supports a standard that was going to make me a fucking geek god! DON'T THINK SO!! More than a few places I have visited have steadily begun the process of "re-engineering". Hehehe, though I will take your money to develop this software for you. The great thing about doing J2EE development is that it usually takes 2-3 times longer than non J2EE development. Just more cash in da' kitty as far as I'm concerned.

If your a geek odds are you are reading this late at night! Well don't yank it too hard, spend some of your extra time socializing with the human race.
