On January 22, 1905, Russian revolutionaries marched to the Winter Palace(in St.Pertersburg) in a non-violent revolt, while holding banners reading "God Save The Czar". They also sung the song, God Save The Czar. The thing they didnt know was that Nicholas the Second wasn't even at the Palace. The main reason they were there was to talk to the Czar to ask for changes. The soldiers did not know what to do, so they opened fire. The leader of the protesters, Father Gapon, was not sure what was going on, and tried to retreat. Although Father Gapon was not killed in the revolution, 500 out of the 200,000 protester were. Several thousand were hurt.
The people wanted an eight hour work day, and a minimum wage of one ruble per day. They requested a constitution, and NO overtime. The main causes were the Russo-Japanese War, and the wide gap between the rich and the poor.

The reasults were:
1) Bloody Sunday inspired many revolutionaries to take action.
2) There were many street battles.
3) The bond between the people and the czar was broken forever.
Nicholas the second was faced with the prospect of a great loss of power, and promised to make changes in the way the country was run. For the people, Nicholas prepared a Duma, which was a national parliment, and was really powerless. He made other promises, like freedom of speech, religion, assembly, and press
