Mabel Sleggs, the School Teacher

Mabel Sleggs, Proud Graduate
Mabel Sleggs attended and graduated from College and then became a school teacher in Geneseo. In the box of photographs, we found a quaint little gray cardboard school souvenir booklet. When Diane LeClair was having a copy of Mabel's graduation portrait framed at a local frame shop in Geneseo, the owner became extremely interested in seeing the souvenir booklet since she is part of a group trying to preserve the history of the one-room-schoolhouse in Geneseo. This woman told Diane that School No. 7 was located on Reservoir Road between "The Farm" and Sleggs Landing.

The front reads "Souvenir, With Best Wishes" and has a small oval area that looks like it may have held a small portrait at one time. The front and back covers are held together by a small rope tie in the left upper corner.

The first inside page reads: School District No. 7, Geneseo, New York, 1907-8. Mabel D. Sleggs, Teacher. Officers: Fred L. Barber, Trustee; Arthur T. Sinclair, Clerk; Charles S. Gilbert, Collector
