Mary Darling's Twin:
Martha Whaples Leonard and Her Michigan Family



Mary and Martha Whaples were twins, born on February 13, 1832. Martha married Henry Leonard in 1849 and moved to Ovid, Michigan. In Mary Darling's little photo album are two other Leonards, Bert and Rose. Herbert Whaples Leonard was Martha's son, nicknamed "Bert". Since Rose is not listed on the Whaples Family Bible Grandchildren page, I assume that she is Bert's wife.

Mixed in with all of the other photographs, I found another Leonard photo, labeled "S.R. Leonard" . From the newly discovered pages in the Whaples Family Bible, courtesy of Georgia Feasel, I can identify her as Sarah Rosella Leonard, Martha and Henry's oldest daughter. Sarah's photograph is from Bacon Studio in Rochester, NY. Did the Leonards move to Ovid, Michigan later in life? Or did Sarah come back to the Rochester area as an adult?
