I believe "Jennie" may also be Jane Sleggs Bacon. Her baby portrait was taken in Bath, NY, which is where Josephine Smith Sleggs lived before marrying John W. Sleggs. According to the 1868 New Gazetteer and Business Directory of Livingston County, the Bacon family was "a dealer in dry goods, trimmings, and ladies' fare" on 61 Main Street, Geneseo.
George W. Sleggs was born in September 1890. I viewed his WWI Draft Registration Card that listed his "dependents" as next of kin. The 1920 Federal Census shows his family living in Lima, NY, consisting of himself (age 28), wife Cleo (age 27), son Chester E. (age 4), daughter Regina E. (age 2-1/2) and son George R. (age 1). George W. Sleggs died in August 1974 in Canaseraga, Allegany County, New York. His youngest son George R. died in January 1999 in Canaseraga.
John and Josephine's next son was John Clayton Sleggs, born in November 1892. His WWI Draft Registration Card shows his occupation as "farming", and employed by John Sleggs in Ossian, NY. John Clayton Sleggs died in July 1979 in Canaseraga, Allegany County, New York. I found an interesting obituary for Esther Harvey Sleggs, a teacher from Dansville who was married to John Sleggs. The last Sleggs son was Howard Pease Sleggs, born in June 1898. His WWI Draft Registration Card lists his occupation as "laborer" and employer as "J.W. Sleggs". Howard died in February 1963 in Canaseraga, Allegany County.
