Letter From Carlos Darling to Nellie Darling Sleggs

Lawrenceville, Tioga Co., PA
June 20, 1919

Mrs. George T. Sleggs
Geneseo, N.Y.

My dear madame;--
Your letter has just reached me and contents very carefully noted. Pleae accept many thanks for the additional information which you have been kind enough to send me.

I sent a letter addressed to Mrs. Mary Darling, Port Huron, Michigan, but it was returned to me unclaimed, so I have not as yet been able to get any information concerning the family and the descendants of your uncle, Amos Darling. Will you kindly tell me the maiden name of his wife, and the names of his children if possible, and tell me if you can, whether or not these children are married, and to whom they are married, and their addresses if you know them. Have you any idea what has become of Mrs. Mary Darling (widow of Amos), as I would like very much to communicate with her.

The Captain John (2) Darling in your line of the Darling family, was not in the Revolutionary War, as he died before that time, but he fought in the Colonial wars. His son Samuel Darling I think was in the Revolution, and he is in your line, and possibly Samuel's son John Darling who married Anna Jillson (your ancestors), was in the Revolution, but there were so many Johns and Samuels in the early Darling family that it is rather hard to tell just which ones did serve in the Revolution. I have twelve Revolutionary ancestors, two of them were Darlings. Will be very glad to help you establish a Revolutionary claim if you care to.

Gratefully yours,
Carlos P. Darling
