The History Behind The Car

The car all started with a Giugiaro wood-mock up in the 1976 design. It was made out of very smooth wood and black outlines for doors.

The 50km Test Car, this car was used to pass qualification tests to be allowed in the U.S. It had to Drive 50,000 Miles.

A Stainless Steel frame was in the works for the car. The frame itself was all epoxy coated, so it could rust if chips formed. The big problem with this was during the tests, it would crack at very low temperatures. This wasn't acceptable where the car was to be driven in the U.S.

The DeLorean had a G.R.P. Body, which is good for absorbance qualities, which would help put in a crash. Also had a fiberglass-reinforced plastic pontoon.

The Man who started it all was named John Z. Delorean. He became a force after designing the GTO and was V.P. of Pontiac in the 1970's. He wanted to make his own car company. And so he did.

The first model was to be called 'DMC-12' a sleek sports car. The factory was located in Northern Ireland and did not producing the 'DMC-12' until 1981. Trying to save the company, he was caught by the government for cocaine trafficing. He was forced to shut down the factory in 1982.

After making more than 8,500 vehicles, the car has come to an end. Congrats go out to the man who made the greatest automobile ever made.
