| I apologize for last entry's strangeness! I accidently made the entire entry into a link to the home page and couldn't undo it! It was really funny. After trying to fix it for 10 minutes, I just decided to let it stay! Not that I had a choice! I'm feeling pretty ecstatic right now because my computer was supposed to have turned off like, an hour ago. We didn't have classes today because it is a holiday right now in Mexico, so I decided that in the evening, once it cooled off, I would come to the school and use my laptop. The school here, as far as technology is concerned, is excellent. They have laptop internet stations all over the place- outside, inside, in the cafeteria- everwhere. Usually I don't feel like bringing my laptop with me to school, but I knew that the lab would be closed today, so I figured this would be a nice day to use my laptop and check my e-mail, which I hadn't done in a while. So, I get here, set everything up, and realize that I didn't bring the battery cable. Not only that, but I had just played games on my computer for about 30 minutes, so I knew that the battery was low. Well, to make a long story short, I had tried to install my digital camera when I first got here (which completely didn't work- I'll go into that later), and because of something that went on during that process, my computer was not able to shut itself down and hibernate, like it usually does when it is running out of battery. As a result, I am still using my computer even though the battery is way, way low. I have no explanation for this, and won't ask for one! I'm just glad I didn't have to go directly home without using it. Back to my digital camera issue. I don't know what the deal is, but I have a digital camera, but can't upload the photos. This is annoying because I really want to show everyone my photos! I am still working on it, and will see if I can do something. Also, I went to pick up some photos today that I had dropped off yesterday. The guy yesterday told me to come back today after 11. I went back at 12:30 and no one was there. I walked around for about 45 minutes, looking in shops, eating icecream, etc., and went back and it was still closed. I know it is a holiday but most other shops were open. It was irritating because he told me to come back today and I had walked a long way to pick up the photos. I wasn't too mad or anything, though, because I remembered what I had been told when I first got here during orientation. We were told that time is seen a lot differently here and that people aren't in as big of hurries as they are in other countries; therefore, if you are told to come back the next day, come back the day after that, because chances are, your stuff will not be ready. This goes for laundery and any other things that you have to go pick up. My house father told me the same thing over again when I went home today. He said that if they tell you come back on Wednesday, come back on Thursday. So, I will go back tomorrow. I had an extra-long vacation, because I have no classes on Wednesdays, so I don't have classes tomorrow, either. This is great! I am, however, going to immigrations for that interview. Yesterday was Charles' birthday! He turned 21. He called me last night going on and on about how he missed me and wished I could have been there. Hehe. I tried all day to call him yesterday. It is so complicated because the phone cards are so expensive for out of state and there is only one brand. It's not like in the US where you can purchase a competing brand. Here, it's all owned by TelMex, and the rate is $1 per minute, home or payphone. Talk about steep! Okay, I'm going home now because my family is ordering pizza tonight! I am sooo excited! I hope it's Dominoes! Anhow, I'll write more tomorrow! |
