Im actually in a better mood than the face implies. I just found out some bad news. Actually, when I think about it, the whole day has been full of kind of bad news, but I guess the reason I am still in a good mood is because I have a nice weekend to look forward to.
Anyhow, the latest news I just found out is that there was an apartment fire in Greensboro, the city where my college is. The apartment complex is named Campus Walk and was close to the University. Anyhow, four people died in the fire and six were injured. The majority of the tenants were students from the college. I recieved an e-mail from an organization that I am in, University Ambassadors, saying that one of the senior members is presumed dead. Of the four bodies that were found, they are not able to and may not be able to identify them for weeks, so they are just going by who is missing for now. How terrible. I always thought a fire would be a miserable way to die. The freaky thing is that I know this apartment complex and had looked at it before as a possible place to live. Anyhow, I think about all of the times that I have been in the dorms and someone pulled the fire alarm as a joke and we all had to get up out of our beds at night and go stand in the street, even when it was cold. There were honestly some nights when I considered staying in bed, especially when it had happened frequently. The sad thing is that I wonder if this is what might have happened to some of the people who died in the fire. I wonder if they thought it was another false alarm. How sad.
Then, there was an email sent out from our chancellor about how another girl at our school was killed in a car accident on Sunday. I dont like hearing about car accidents, just because I have known of so many people have died in them, and the thought is so morbid. I am also preoccupied by the way people drive here and wonder why I dont see more accidents. Seriously, people drive very fast, pass anywhere, and cut in front of cars on the other side of the road all of the time. Its ridiculous. Lately, I have seen several accidents, all minor, but it still freaks me out.
This evening, I found out that a friend of mine has chicken pox, the guy that I spent a good deal of time with on Wednesday. Fortunately, I have already had it, but still, I have to be careful because I play with the kids across the street all of the time, and theres a baby in the house. You can have the virus, but not be affected by it if you have already had chicken pox, so that means that you can spread it to others without yourself getting sick.
Then, this is very minor, but I am extremely lost on several things in my Phoetics Class. I did terrible on the exam, and the part that I messed up on most is not going away. What I mean is, this class is a lot like algebra- what you learn, you just add on to the next part. So, if you dont master one thing in the first place, it doesnt just go away like in history or something. I actually have to learn how to do this stuff. What it is is complicated syllabic divisions. Well, we are adding on and beginning to analyze sentences and write them in the way they are phonetically pronounced. I hate it. Anyhow, the teacher says that I need to work on it and that if by next class I am still having problems, she will meet with me, later. (My friend, the only other person in the class), thinks that we should meet together once a week to work on our classwork and review and stuff, because it is getting really complicated. I thought this was a good idea. The one other person in the class, our friend, Kahuna, dropped the class, so its just us two, Becky and I now. Ugh. I think it will be okay, though. I understood what we did today, but I just have to go back and work on the other stuff. The teacher is pretty cool, though, and really wants to help.
However, not everything is bad news. I found out today that my good friend, Chelsey, is coming to visit me in Mexico! I am soooo exicted! I had brought it up to her and just told her to look into it for Spring Break. Well, somehow, she won a bid on Amazon.com for 2 coach tickets to anywhere for $16. This is really strange, but she showed it to her parents and all and they think its legitimate. If so, I am so happy! I am already planing things for us to do! Okay...space running out and Charles is calling tonight! Gotta go!
