Happy Valentines Day!!!
Home
Hi! I really dont know why I have that face up there. I didnt feel like putting up the happy happy face today, so I figured this would do.
Not really too much going on except that I am about to go to a bible study type thing at my friend Bernadices house. These are the people that I went to church with on Sunday. In a way, I dont want to go, but I said I would. I dont really mind, though, because as far as Im concerned, any interaction with Spanish-speaking people is good exposure, and especially at something like bible study. Plus, this will be a good change from Zumbalays. I have my phoetics homework to take care of, so going to the club wouldnt be the best of ideas.
Yesterday evening I went to my friend, Ignacios house. I met him at the festival Tuesday. I really liked his house. It is kind of on a hill and has pretty gardens and flowers and a hammock. I was laying on it when it got dark and seeing the lights down in the valley was so gorgeous. There are so many things here I wish I could take photos of but cant. Its one of those things you just have to see for yourself. Anyhow, he has these really cute, sweet dogs, one of them a white poodle. This one reminded me of my dogs, so I liked playing with him. Ignacio s little brother was adorable, too, asking me all kinds of questions.  Its cool because Ignacio is 18, so I learn a lot of slang and whatnot from him. Its so funny how many words you pick up from listening to people. He speaks really good English (he claims that I speak really good Spanish), so I talk to him in English and asked him to talk to me in Spanish, that way both of us are learning something.
I was showing him photos and came to one of me and Charles in Mexico in Epcot Center, Disneyworld. In this photo, he and I are wearing sombreros and I am carrying a big tweed bag and a Mexican flag and were wearing some type of Mexican cover. Its kind of a funny picture, but Ignacio asked me why is it that all Americans always show Mexicans with the huge sombreros, as if they all dressed that way? I thought about it, and it is true. A lot of times that is what you see and the truth is that I have not seen one sombrero since I got here, or at least not the kind from the photos. I was kind of embarrased because I realized how offensive that must be and how terrible it must have looked to see me and Charles dressed up in the Mexican costumes and whatnot. I tried to explain to him that a lot of Americans have the wrong view or a very narrow view of what Mexicans are like. And it is very incorrect, might I add. A lot of Mexicans here do not fit into the "category" I guess you could say, that Americans envision, or at least,  the Americans that I know. Anyway, just a thought....
Well, I better get out of here if Im not going to be late. I am supposed to have a very busy weekend, so I will definitely make it a point to write tommorrow!
