| Hola! I had a really nice weekend. It was very casual- I just pretty much relaxed and did some fun things. Friday night Charles called but I missed his call because I had gone downtown to meet someone. Fortunately, the person never showed, which was good because I really didnt want to meet them in the first place. You know how sometmes you agree to meet a person and then youre like, "Ugh...why did I say that?" So, I came back home and watched a movie with my family. I fell asleep during the movie and at the end Charles called, so I was glad that I got to talk to him anyway. I had a little bit of strangeness going on on Saturday. First of all, my friend, Edgar, who I hadnt talked to in over two weeks approached me at the club, Zumbalays. He was acting all weird talking about how he needed to talk to me and stuff, and wanted me to wait and ride home with him. I was like, "No, I really have to go now because my friends are leaving and I dont want to get left behind." He was like, "Ill take you home." This idea I was not fond of at all, so I told him he could give me a call on Friday. So, Friday he e-mails me talking about how we needed to talk "sobre ti, (about me)" which completely freaked me out because it sounds weird, you know? So, I e-mail him back and tell him to call me and he calls and is telling me that he has an English project that he needs help with and if I could meet him on Saturday downtown. I thought this would be pretty cool, so I agreed. So, Saturday morning I go downtown to meet him at 11 and we talked for about 20 minutes before leaving. Now, Im thinking were going to his school to work on the project, which is fine with me, because I kind of wanted to see him college. He goes to La Universidad Americana, which is another big university here in Cuernavaca. So, were walking and talking and stuff, and in a few minutes came to what looked like a restaurant. I figured, okay, he doesnt want to walk all the way to his college. So, we go up to a counter, and Im thinking to myself, "Its really strange how we have to go up to this counter for a table." So, hes talking to the guy at the counter and I cant really understand everything theyre saying, and I notice that these girls beside us are kind of whispering and giggleling. I looked around and was like, "Wow, this restaurant sure looks an awful lot like a hotel." Finally, I said to Edgar, "Edgar, are we in a hotel?" He was like, "S, s," and I was like, "EDGAR! What do we need a hotel room to study for?!" He was trying to tell me that he figured we could just get a room para "platicar y para que pueda explicarme." I told him he was crazy and that we were leaving, and that if he needed to explain himself we could do it in a restaurant. We talked for a few more minutes and then I told him that if he didnt have any work to do, I had to go. He seemed pretty eager to go, too. He was like, "Yeah, Ill call you next week sometime." I get the feeling I wont be hearing from Edgar anymore, which is fine with me. Anyhow, that was Saturday. Sunday was really cool because I went with a girl to her church. I thought I was going to a Catholic church, and was kind of excited because I had never been to one before, but it turned out that it was non-denominational Christian. I LOVED it! It was huge! There were four services a day, each with about 500 people. We went to the 12:30 service. I liked how they did the songs, meaning they put them on a overhead to project onto the wall so that you could read along. Obviously, this was helpful for me and I enjoyed it more because I was able to sing along. I enjoyed listening to the pastor because it really helps with vocabulary. The people were so nice and friendly and there was this one part where everyone said hello and introduced themselves to the visitors. It was so lively...there were dancers and flag people at the front, dancing along to the music. It was very entertaining. Afterwards, I went with my friend, Bernadice, to her house. See, her mother and sisters had met me at the hospital where Bernadice works to pick me up. Anyhow, we went to her house and they had fixed a big dinner for me and all! They had friend boneless chicken breasts with this awesome sauce, vegetables, and had even bought a special chocolate cake! I thought that was so nice of them! They loved talking to me and were practicing their English with me and teaching me words in Spanish. They invited me to come with them on Saturday to a church youth event, and I told them Id go. I ended up staying until 5:45. I was a bit iritated because I had no idea that I would be spending the entire day with her family, you know? I actually was supposed to meet someone at 5, but missed the appoinment. Still, it was great and I am kind of excited about Saturday. Okay... gotta go- running out of space! Ill write more tomorrow! |
