Yes, I�m back in Cuernavaca. It was a nice vacation in Michoacan. I intend to go back at some point in the future, probably one day with Charles. I was thinking that I was going to really dread coming back to school, but it isn�t that bad. One thing that helps is that Claudia�s mother came back with us. I like her so much! She is funny and very lively. Not that old...only like 57 or so. She is going to stay for like, a week.
Well, since I haven�t written in a while, I guess I�ll talk about some of the things I did in Michoacan. On Thursday, we went to these local towns near Morelia, Santa Clara and somewhere else. Anyhow, Santa Clara was really cool because they make things out of copper there. You can go into little shops and see the men hitting the copper over the fire and molding it. There was a marketplace that sold all sorts of things out of copper. At first, I didn�t think I would find this too interesting, but these people were selling these little mirrors that were so beautiful and so cheap. I bought several because I needed some souveneirs for people that were small, practical, and cheap. They are handmade and would cost a lot in the US, just because they�d be imported. So many things are like that here- they are sold so cheap by the people who handmake them, but imported into somewhere like Pier One, they�d be ridiculously high.
Then we went to this other town and walked around some of the shops. I got this really cute wooden puzzle of all the states and capitals of Mexico. I like it because I wanted to learn all of the states, and this has made it easy. When I�m bored, I just play it and I have pretty much leaned all of them.
On Friday we went to the state of Guanahuato to go to a sort of "family reunion" for the family of Claudia�s sister�s boyfriend. Hehe. It was cool. There was a pool at the house and we mostly sat out by the pool and ate food and talked. There was also music and volleyball.I didn�t eat too much, just because in general, I am not fond of the food here. Sorry. I almost had a nervous breakdown at dinner because the people gave me some food and I didn�t really like it. I was really tired, hungry because I hadn�t eaten much day, and I really wanted Burger King. Anyhow, it was these little corn things shaped into triangular spheres and they didn�t really have much of a taste. Well, the lady gave me three and they were kind of big! Nobobdy else thought they were big, probably because they liked them. Anyhow, it wasn�t her fault- she was just being nice to me, and I guess that�s why I get so upset. I feel bad throwing their food away, so I feel forced to eat it, and then, everyone around the table is watching me to see if I like it, and then people ask me in front of everyone if I like it, and of course I have to say yes! I hate it! So, I�m just sitting there all depressed looking, eating slow, and knowing there�s no way I�m going to finish it all. It�s so pitiful. Then Claudia�s mother came and started giving me a lesson on how they make this dish, which is a dish typical of Michoacan. It was terrible. When nobody was looking, I threw it away. Last time this happened, we were at some of Claudia�s relative�s houses on Monday and everything was excellent except the dessert. And they gave me so much! Andre knows how I feel because this happens to him, too, and we were talking about it. Well, when no one was looking, he grabbed my dessert and switched it with his plate, which was empty. I told him, Andre, I owe you one!
