My Views on Software Engineering:
As I have just taken this subject for a week, I do not think it's fair for me to comment much on the subject itself, but I think I will just write out my feelings here. Well, to me, this subject is more of a theory subject, where we learn models and theories of how things should be done, particularly when it comes to handling large and/or complicated projects. Although I'm sure that it will be a useful subject to take, I hope that the subject don't turn out to be just a subject where we are expected to memorise the models and theories down to the slightest details and reproduce them in the exams and our lab. Instead, I hope that the subject will allow for more flexibilty and we are not expected to stick strictly to the model, but rather to use them as guidelines while we try to improve on them through our own experiences (in everyday life as well as in our labs). To me theories will always be theories unless they can be applied to the real world, and I'm sure that the models that we are studying have been applied successfully before, but different circumstances requires different ways of solving the same problem, and hopefully, we will be allowed to experiment and maybe even come out with our own model if possible. After all, even if our experiments don;t work out all that well, I'm sure it will be a learning experience for us, and will no doubt benefit us as we learn from our mistakes. |
