Chapter 69: Cup & Busch Practice
When they got back to the track, they got ready for practice. First it was cup practice. Jr was the fastest in the cup practice with Mikey almost as fast as him in second. The rest of the top 5 was Kevin, Robby and Rusty.
A hour after cup practice it was Busch practice. When practice started jr got very loose and crashed in turn 1.
�Jr are you ok?� Steve asked.
�Yes I am ok,� Jr answered. �I just got very loose and brushed the wall Steve.�
�10-4,� BONO said. �Lets make some adjustments.�
�Ok I will bring it right in,� Jr said.
�10-4,� BONO said. �I�ll let Martin and them know what happened to ya.�
�Ok,� Jr said.
So BONO radioed down to Martin and Tony Jr what happened to Jr. Tony Jr went and checked for damage on Jr.�s car.
�Really I can�t find anything,� Tony Jr said. �Well ok I see some scrapes here yet that�s it.�
�So we gotta repaint it right?� BONO asked.
�Yep we have to repaint it BONO,� Tony Jr answered.
�Glad we brought extra paint,� BONO commented.
�I know,� Tony Jr agreed. �Lets gets started.�
�Good idea,� BONO complemented Tony Jr.
�Ok,� Tony Jr said. Then Tony Jr let Jr know to come back in a few hours and check out the car.
�Ok,� Jr said. �Where�s Martin?�
�He is still practicing right now Jr,� Tony Jr answered.
�Ok,� Jr said. Then Jr just waited for Martin to get back to the garage. When Martin came in, Jr went to chat with him. �Hey Martin. How is your car?�
�Perfect,� Martin answered. �You?�
�Not that good,� replied Jr. �The car is just too loose.�
�Ah that sucks,� Martin comments. �Need any set-up ideas?�
�Yea I guess Martin,� Jr answered.
�Well you gave me the book with the list in it right?� Martin started off. �Well since we have this new tire compound I found the set-up from last year is loose. So we went to the night set-up since these cars are looser at night and it works great.�
�Ok,� Jr said.
�Man I never thought I�d be the one helping you,� Martin stated.
�I know,� Jr agreed. �Thanks Martin.�
�Anytime bud,� replied Martin.
Then Jr went back to his car and to talk to BONO.
�So how�s the repainting coming?� Jr asked.
�Its coming good Jr,� BONO answered.
�Good,� Jr commented.
�Got any good set-ups that will improve your car Jr?� BONO wondered.
�Yeah,� Jr answered. �Martin said that the set-up from the night race in July from last year works real good.�
�Ok,� BONO said. �Do you want to try that set-up or not Jr?�
�I guess its worth a shot,� replied Jr. �I mean is anything else working? Nope so lets just try it to see if it goes well.�
�Ok,� BONO said.
�Hey guys we have a little problem,� one of the painters said. �The crew members cannot find one of the colors we need.�
�Ok,� BONO said. �What color is it?�
�Well we have to say tha we kept the Oreo scheme how it starts dark and goes light right?� the painter started. �Well were missing the middle blue?�
�Ok,� BONO said. �Did you check over at Martin�s area or Mikey�s area?�
�We checked Martin�s,� the painter stated.
�Ok,� BONO said. �What about Mikey�s area? They might have the paint color but I am not sure.�
�That�s where we shall check next,� the painter said.
�Ok,� BONO said.
So the painter told the guys what BONO had said and one of the crew members headed down to Mikey�s garage. Jr then left BONO and team alone to meet up with Ashley.
�Hey Ash,� Jr said.
�Hi Jr,� Ashley said. �How is your car? What are they doing with it?�
�The car was really loose and I scraped the wall so right now they are repainting where I got the scrape on it,� Jr told her.
�Ok,� Ashley said.
�So what have you been up to all day?� Jr asked.
�Just hang out here in the pits and reporting,� Ashley answered. �What about you Jr?�
�Well before Busch practice and the scrape with the wall I did Cup practice and had a pretty good time,� Jr started. �And just got back to the team after I finished talking with Martin.�
�Ok,� Ashley said.
�Yeah,� Jr said. �So you have any plans tonight? Because I was thinking of us spending some personal time since we hardly get to.�
�I have no plans for tonight,� Ashley told him. �I will be happy to spend some personal time with you tonight.�
�Ok,� Jr said. �I mean I didn�t plan on what we�d do but I mean I really want to spend some personal time with you.�
�That would be great Jr,� Ashley commented.
�Ok sweets,� Jr said.
�Well I better head to the Hollywood Hotel since Jeff and Chris want to see us reporters right now,� Ashley said.
�Ok then,� Jr said. �See ya.�
