Ashley's Mom: Ashley! Come on! You're gonna be late!
(Ashley pulls on a sweater and some jeans and runs downstairs where Toby is eating his breakfast.)
Toby: We get marks today, Ash.
Ashley: (sarcastically) Oh I bet you're excited.
Ashley's mom: Ashley, be nice to Toby. (Ashley gets up after taking one bite of toast) Ashley!
Ashley: Yeah, mom?
Ashely's mom: I exspept good marks today. Anything lower than a C and you come straight home from school, you understand?
Ashley: (rolling eyes) Yeah mom. (runs out the door)
Ashley's mom: And Toby, anything lower than an A and you get your computer taken away for a week.
Toby: (sighing) Okay. (leaves as we hear the degrassi theme song)
Scene 2- We see Ashley walking with Paige and Terri.
Ashley: It's so unfair. (mocking her mom) Ashley, be nice to Toby! Ugh! He gets away with everything.
Paige: (scarcely listening) So, we on for movies tonight at my place?
Ashley: I doubt I can. If I don't pull off a C in Science I'm grounded.
Terri: Harsh.
Paige: I know how you feel, Ash. Miss Kwan has been totally on my case this year. It’ll be a miracle if I pull off a C- in her class. (just then Spinner sneaks up behind Paige and hugs her) Hi, hun.
Spinner: Hey, girl. This is gonna be a great christmas. I know you'll just die when you see what I got you.
Terri: (waving to Rick) Hey, hun!
Rick: (giving a little wave and hurrying off) Got to go. (Terri sighs and looks at Paige and Spinner longinly)
Scene 3- we see Toby, JT, and Emma walking in the hall
Toby: She gets anything lower than a C and she has to stay home. I get anything lower than an A and I am grounded from the computer for a week. She gets away with everything!
(Emma sees Manny giving Sully a huge rose and getting a large present in return)
Emma: Uh that sounds great, Toby.
JT: (stopping at his locker, which is right next to Sean's) Well, my older sister is coming in from college for christmas and all my parents care about is the preparation for that.
Sean: At least you got parents. And atleast you got something to celebrate this christmas. (puts his bookbag over his shoulder and walks off)
Emma: Someone's in a haggy mood.
JT: Hes got it good. He can do whatever he wants and no one is ever on his case about it.
Toby: Except Radich.
JT: I'd rather have Radich mad at me than my parents.
Emma: Radich is mad at you.
JT: Yeah so I got both Radich and my parents mad at me. He’s only got one to worry about. (Toby and Emma shrug and they make their way to their class)
Scene 4- We see grade 9 in their media immersions class. Mr. SImpson is giving away papers.
Mr. Simpson: Good job, Libery, a solid B. (hands a paper to Mr. Simpson)
Liberty: Mr. Simpson, are you sure your subtraction was correct because I studied long hours for this test.
Mr. Simpson: I don't correct this, Liberty, its a scan track.
Liberty: But computers malfunction, you said that yourself.
Mr. Simpson: Sorry, Liberty, the grade stands. (hands a paper to Emma) Emma, a nice A, like usual. (Libery scowls at Emma and then sends an instand message to Manny that says: Teachers Pet gets an A again. Manny sends one back that says, You have nothing to be jealous of- Everyone wants your job as the announcer. Libery sends one back that says,That compares nowhere to grades. Manny looks at her and shakes her head. Liberty straightens her back.)
Scene 5- We see grade 10 in Miss Kwan's class.
Miss Kwan: Now, you may get into your groups to discuss chapters 5-11. (Jimmy makes his way over to Spinner. Once the class gets talking, Jimmy practically shouts:)
Jimmy: Guess what pa's getting me for christmas?
Spinner: (sarcastically) A house.
Jimmy: Close. A car!
Hazel: (walking up) A car?
Jimmy: Not just a car. My car.
Hazel: That's great, Jimmy. (Spinner looks away, as if suddenly distracted)
Ellie: (pulling Hazel away) Come on, Hazel, we have to get going on this discussion.
Hazel: (pretending not to hear) Dad's coming home and he's going to take me to the Jet concert! (turns to Ellie) What excited thing are you wishing for? (Ellie rolls her eyes and walks off in a huff)(Hazel turns back to Jimmy and Spinner) What was that about?
Jimmy: Her dad's in the military and her mom's a drunk- I doubt she's getting anything special for christmas this year.
Miss Kwan: Ellie, can I see you please? (Ellie goes up to Miss Kwan's desk.)
Spinner: Guess what I'm getting Paige for christmas?
Jimmy: What?
Spinner: You can't tell.
Hazel: Promise. (giggles)
Spinner: A gift certificate for a full day at the spa! And, when she gets there, I will have a huge flower arrangement in lobby set up just for her. Can't fail, can it?
Jimmy: Wow, how can you afford this, Spin?
Spinner: Oh, I got a job at Joey's carlot.
Jimmy: Awesome. You might be selling me my car! (Spinner rolls his eyes as Ellie returns with a paper in her hand.)
Ellie: Miss Kwan is advancing me to grade 11 English!
Hazel: Wow, El, you must be a smart little button there. (giggles)
Ellie: Oh and Miss Kwan wanted me to give this to you. (hands Hazel a paper with a huge D on it. Hazel stops laughing)
Scene 6- we again see Ashley, Terri, and Paige, walking down the hall
Ashley: I knew it! I knew I would get a C- in Science!
Terri: Does this mean we're off for tonight?
Ashley: Yeah. And it's all Toby's fault.
Paige: How is it Toby's fault?
Ashley: He gets away with everything! I would kill to be him!
Terri: You wouldn't really want to be him, would you, I mean, he's weird. (Ashley breaks into a daydream. She is herself, she is just dressed as Toby, glasses and everything.
Miss Hotsalaco: Good job, Ash, an A+++ (hands her a paper)
Ashley: Thanks!
Ashley's mom: Oh, Ashley, I am so proud of you!
Ashley: Why are you at school, mom?
Ashley's mom: To congradulate you. Well, I better go. I locked Toby up in the linen closet and it's feeding time.
Ashley breaks out of her daydream.)
Ashley: I don't know, Terri. I wouldn't mind being Toby.
(Spinner runs up and hugs Paige.)
Paige: Oh hi what was that for?
Spinner: I can hardly keep in my holiday excitment. (takes Paige's hand an pulls her away as Rick slithers by Terri. Terri sighs)
Ashley: What was that?
Terri: What?
Ashley: That sigh. It was the depressing kind.
Terri: Oh its just with grades coming out and....
Ashley: Oh please, you get practically all A's. (Terri looks beyond at Paige and Spinner laughing hearitly) It's Paige, isn't it?
Terri: It sounds dumb, but she's got everything.
Ashley: Not everything.
Terri: Close to it. (Terri goes into a daydream similar to Ashley's. She is dressed like Paige and walking confindently through the halls. Everyone she passes turns to stare at her. Rick runs up and hugs her, giving her a huge bouquet of flowers.
Rick: Oh, Terri, you are the best girl and I have the best christmas present for you.
Girl: Terri, you are so cool and so popular. I want to be just like you!
She breaks out of the daydream)
Ashley: Come on, Terri, let's get to class.
