Scene 1- We see all of the Degrassi 10th grade students in their classroom in first period. Then Liberty comes on the TV for the morning announcements.

Liberty: Good morning Degrassi students! I would like to congratulate the Boys Basketball team for their win this Saturday. (Class cheers and Jimmy takes a bow) I would like to remind anyone who would like to sign up for the Mr. and Miss Degrassi contest to sign up by today. Voting will begin next week. (TV turns off)

Paige: (to Hazel) Hazel. What do you think? Me- Miss Degrassi?
Hazel: I don't know, Paige, anyone can run, including grade 12.
Paige: Right. But I'm Paige. I'll win!
Hazel: Hey maybe I should run.
Paige: Don't be silly, Hazel, no one will vote for you. (Hazel frowns and we hear the degrassi theme song as Paige babbles on about her chances of winning)

Scene 2- We see Emma and Manny walking down the hall, carrying books.

Manny: (excited) I'm so excited for after school!
Emma: Me, too. It'll be great! (Toby and JT walk up)
JT: What will be great?
Emma: Manny and I's dance class. Lyrical.
Toby: Lyrical dancing?
Emma: It's excellent. It shows your emotions, looks nice, and is a great source of exercise. Not to mention, it's fun.
Manny: We've only had one class but we learned an entire routine already!
JT: Really? Well, can we see this routine?
Emma: No, but we are having a recital at the end of the month. You can see it then.
Toby: I'd rather eat dirt.
Emma: That's too bad. Toby, I know deep down you have a soul. You, too, JT.
JT: Lyrical, recitals, souls- sounds like mumbo-jumbo to me!
Toby: And me.
Emma: Suit yourself. (Emma and Manny leave.)
JT: Lyrical dancing! (Laughs hysterically)
Toby: Yeah. (Laughs slightly)

Scene 3- We see Hazel doing something at her locker when Paige runs up to meet her. We can see Jimmy behind listening to the conversation.

Paige: Hazel! It's confirmed. I just signed up for the elections. Here comes the next Miss Degrassi!
Hazel: Congrats Paige,
Paige: I was thinking about my winning chances. Will you vote for me?
Hazel: Uhh…..
Paige: Oh what am I saying! Of course you will!
Hazel: Paige. I was thinking about the elections, too. Think I should run?
Paige: I don't know, Hazel. This is kind of my thing- not yours. But don't take it personally. Oh, look! There's Spinner! I have to go tell him! (Paige leaves and Jimmy comes up)
Jimmy: Hi Hazel.
Hazel: Oh, hi, Jimmy.
Jimmy: So how about those elections?
Hazel: They're cool.
Jimmy: Hazel, I know something's wrong.
Hazel: Wrong? What do you mean?
Jimmy: You're always in the background, the rebound.
Hazel: I'm friends with Paige, Jimmy. It's hard not to be noticed.
Jimmy: Paige is the problem. She takes you for granted,
Hazel: You're right, Jimmy. You're completely right!
Jimmy: So……. Do something about it!
Hazel: Like what?
Jimmy: Run against her. Miss Degrassi.
Hazel: Thanks, Jimmy, but I don't think I can do that. She is my best friend.
Jimmy: She doesn't believe in you. She is self-absorbed and doesn't let anyone notice you. Go for it!
Hazel: Jimmy, I can't. I don't want Paige to hate me.
Jimmy: You want to be noticed, don't you?
Hazel: Yeah, but, but…
Jimmy: What?
Hazel: But not this way.
Jimmy: Think about it, Hazel. I'd vote for you. (Jimmy winks and leaves)(Liberty walks by and Hazel goes up to her)
Hazel: Liberty!
Liberty: Make it quick, Hazel, I have to get to class.
Hazel: Sign me up.
Liberty: For what?
Hazel: For the elections. Miss Degrassi.
Liberty: Ok. But you do know Paige is running. Are you seriously going to go against her?
Hazel: Yeah. But she doesn't know. So don't tell her.
Liberty: Why?
Hazel: Umm, I want it to be a…. surprise! (Laughs)(Paige runs up)
Paige: Liberty! How's the elections going?
Liberty: Great.
Paige: Liberty, how about you give me the inside scoop on my competition.
Liberty: Well so far the only people signed up are you and... (Hazel nudges her)Just you. Now, if you two will excuse me, I have to get to class. (Leaves)
Paige: How about that, Hazel? No competition!
Hazel: Yeah. That's, that's something.

Scene 4- We see Toby and JT in front of a TV in Toby's room playing video games.

JT: Ha! I beat you again!
Toby: This game is getting old. Let's get something new.
JT: I'll get it. (As JT looks throw and box full of games, he finds a book entitled 'Lyrical Dancing') Uh, Toby?
Toby: Yeah, JT?
JT: What's this? (Lifts up book)
Toby: Oh, uh, that! Yeah, um, that Ashley's!
JT: Why is it in your room?
Toby: I don't know. (Ashley walks in)
Ashley: Oh, hi, JT. (JT smiles) Toby, have you seen my black handbag?
Toby: Which one?
Ashley: The black one.
Toby: They're all black.
Ashley: Ok, I guess not. (Starts to leave) Oh, and mom wants to know if JT is staying for dinner.
JT: Uh, no. I have to go. Oh, and Ashley, here's your book back. (Hands her the book)
Ashley: Uh, this is Toby's.
Toby: No, it's yours.
Ashley: No, it's yours, Toby. Remember, mom bought it for you when we went to the Book Fair yesterday. You were begging for it practically on your knees! (She laughs and leaves)
JT: This is yours, Toby?
Toby: Yeah. You know, I thought I'd check it out!
JT: Toby, are you planning to take that lyrical dance class with Emma and Manny?
Toby: No! Ok, yeah.
JT: This is just another lame attempt to get close to Emma, isn't it?
Toby: No! Ok, yeah. But ever since Emma started talking about dancing, it's seemed different. It could be really fun. And Lyrical dancing, it just seems like something I should do. I'm like, drawn to it.
JT: Toby, I don't know. You don't want to end up like Ashley's dad, do you?
Toby: JT! I'm only going to TRY this class. Not for very long. Nothing will come of it.
JT: Fine. Fine.
