| CHAPTER 15 |
| AJ's heart dropped at the scream Dillan gave. He raced inside and up the stairs. With each step he took forward, he felt like he was taking 2 steps back. "Dillan!?" Teeth clenched, adrenaline pumping, mind racing. 'What can make her scream so loud,' he thought. 'Bad dream. Yea she just had a bad dream.' Turning into his bedroom AJ finds an empty bed. Still hearing the uncontrollable crying, he turns down the hall to Dillan's room. There he finds clothes scattered around the room, all the drawers pulled out of the dresser, and Dillan curled up in the corner hysterical and barely holding onto a piece of crumpled paper. She gasps and ducked as AJ entered the room. Standing shocked he glared about the invation not knowing what had happened. Dillan raised the paper to him and he snatched it from her finger tips and read it: Thought I'd see you again. I must say you have very nice things. I'm sorry I couldn't straighten up a bit before I left, but I was rudely interrupted by the phone. I will see you again, promise. Oh, p.s. You two are such a cute couple while you are sleeping its sickening. "We need to go," AJ said pulling Dillan off the floor. "We need to go now!" AJ jogged down the stairs and out the door with Dillan in tow. ~*~*~*~ "Well, Mr. McLean, we can put you in a safe house until this case is over." "What about my house? He's fuckin broken into my house! I don't want that psycho asshole to be there again!" "We'll put an alarm on your house and have a car on call." "There's already an alarm on it, but I never use it while I'm there." "If it doesn't have motion sensors inside then you should have it on all the time. And since you'll be gone, the alarm will only be turned off when officers come and go through the doors. But for now, take this key and go get some rest. We'll talk more tomorrow." AJ wasn't paying attention to what the detective had said. He was staring at Dillan in the next office being questioned. She looked over at him and just before she took a drink of her coffee she mouthed 'I love you' to him. He winked at her and was caught off guard when the detective yelled his name. "You paying attention, son?" "Yea, I got it." He grabbed the key and met Dillan outside the door. "We've got a safe place to stay," he said as he put his arm around her and pulled her really close to him. He guided her to the elevator and rode down in complete silence. "Why do you think he's doing this, AJ," Dillan asked soft enough to where sound had barely left her lips. "I don't know, baby. He's crazy, that's why." ~*~*~*~ The next morning AJ woke up to no Dillan to the right of him. He looked in the bathroom but she wasn't there. He had just put on his shorts as she walked through the door. "Morning," he said noticing the armful of food she had. "Free breakfast so I brought back all I could." She smirked as she took a big bite of her blueberry bagel. "Let's see what Sunday morning cartoons are on." She flipped through the channels and got stuck on Rugrats. "This show is still on?" AJ piled his food high on his plate and sat next to her on the bed. "You seem in a better mood today." "I know!" She turned to him and smiled. It was a smile AJ hadn't seen in days. "I feel so safe here. Like no one can find us." She turned back to the tv and watched a little more. "So when do we need to go back to the station," she asked with her mouth full. AJ laughed. "He said anytime we wanted to talk. I was thinking if we go back there we can call everyone and tell them what's up..." Dillan interrupted, "No one finds out where we are! None of the Boys must know, AJ." "I know." "I'm serious. Only you, me, and the detective know. We can't tell our families, friends, no one!" "Babe, don't worry. No one is gonna find out. I promise you." Chapter 16 Featured Stories Main Page |
