| CHAPTER 13 |
| Dillan adored her older brother, Mark. He was 5 years older than her but they were the best of friends. He had taught her every sport he was interested in. If he played baseball, when she got old enough, she joined the team. When he's play basketball, she did too. And when he tried out for the football team his freshman year of high school, she swore that she'd tried out when she entered high school. As a sophomore, Mark was put onto the Varsity football team. That year his quarterbacking skills gave him a scholarship to Notre Dame in two years. After the last practice of the season, Mark didn't want to wait for his mom to pick him so he decided to walk home. He came from the alley that led to his street; his house was in view. A car sped around the corner and didn't see Mark. He got hit by the car and landed on a neighbor's car. 10 year old Dillan was playing catch with a friend in her yard and saw the whole thing. It traumatized her for life. She never played any sports after that up until about 2 years ago. ~*~*~*~ AJ pondered what he should do with the man on the phone. A teary-eyed Dillan emerged from the car and called for him to come back. "Hey man. Uh, your sister is busy. So why don't you call back later?" "Alright. Tell her I really need to talk to her." "No problemo. Hey one question. How does it feel being alive after having been dead for almost 9 years, you bastard?" AJ laughed and the man hung up. He cursed under his breath all the way back to the car. He hopped in and met Dillan's puffy face. "Who were you talking to," she asked as he wiped her tears away. "Oh, just Nick. He wanted me to bring the beer." She looked at him like she was going to start bawling again. He kissed her gently, "I won't let anything happen to you, I promise."
