even though hip-hop is the ultimate driving force in my life, not to mention, my chosen musical genre, i do partake in the listening of other types of music. i happen to enjoy quite a bit of r&b, modern rock, and techno music. i'll give you a litte insight as to my preferences below. enjoy...
when the video for "one step closer" first hit mtv, i was feeling it. i didn't really listen to the lyrics and the beats weren't heard under the best circumstances on my parental unit's old school television, but i was definitely feeling it. and then when the irate Deacon bought the "hybrid theory" cd and i listened to every joint fully, i couldn't shake it. this was one of the hottest records i had ever heard. i soon got ahold of the cd myself and blazed it on a regular basis. and then when they dropped "reanimation," it was too much. my shit was blown. "reanimation" is one of the hottest cds i've ever copped. every track is laced with the tightest production and each lyric is dripping with uninhibited emotion. this is evident every time i listen to the "place for my head" remix, when my insides pulsate with so much pain that tears begin to run down my cheeks. this cd is the epitome of everything a rock, not to mention, hip-hop, album is meant to be. linkin park's essence isn't just created in the studio either. i've seen them in concert and every last bit of the emotion that is displayed on the album is brought out on stage. real music has never seen a more thorough example. other artists i feel are worthy include staind, radiohead, gorillaz, coldplay, static-x, stone temple pilots, dave matthews band, and orgy.
janet jackson...probably my first love. i started listening to janet jackson when i was just a wee little chap. janet has held strong over the past twenty years and has become one of the most influential artists of the time. with every new release, she successfully reinvents herself while remaining true to her style and her fans. she is truly a beautiful person with beautiful music. my sister got me hooked on janet around the time of "rhythm nation 1814" and i have to admit, i've been a fiend since. after playing out "rhythm nation" numerous times, "janet" was finally released. with "janet," i also began to get into janet's older music... "control," "dream street," etc. but when "the velvet rope" was released, it killed me. "the velvet rope" is my favorite janet jackson album to date. every track is a banger and many of the songs invoke tears. it sometimes hurts to listen to the pain she so beautifully vocalizes on songs like "what about," "every time," and "you," especially when you've been there. i somehow knew "all for you" was going to be a hot album when it dropped and it was. and i finally got my chance to see janet in concert with lady Jester, which was one of the best shows i have ever attended. some people hate on janet profusely for her blatant displays of sexuality and vulgarity, but she'll stay strong to the end. its all from the heart. other artists i feel are worthy include her brother michael circa nineteen ninety-five and earlier, as well as madonna.
many people despise the hard, pulsating instrumentals of trance and house music. i don't. many people find it hard to dance to the relentless beats of the music. i don't. many people say they can't enjoy techno music without a mind-altering substance in their body. i don't. personally, i find this type of music to be extremely invigorating and very emotional. it sparks a nerve in my body and completely takes control of my brain. i honestly don't know what it is about the music but there is something in it that takes me over. the pounding bass and high-strung repetitive melodies give one an almost euphoric feeling all on their own. the jivaro peoples of the amazon believe that the world of the supernatural is actually the true world and that only the very advanced can enter the world through a solid hard beat alone. a beat, might i add, that puts one in a trance. everyone else must use hallucinogens in order to enter this world. interesting, eh? my absolute favorite artist is actually a dj that spins other artist's music to make music of his own. his name is dj micro. his mixtapes are absolutely insane. a headtrip the entire way through. micro's label is moonshine music, a label dedicated completely to electronic music. another group i feel is worthy is daft punk.

other artists i listen to include a trip-hop duo named esthero. they only have one album out which was released in nineteen ninety-eight but they are definitely worthy. i also have taken quite a liking to n.e.r.d. their music is very inventive and creative. check them out. r&b artists such as d'angelo, mary j. blige, jon b., erykah badu, jodeci, and xscape are also in heavy rotation in my cd player.
