I started making films when I was at Liverpool Art College. I was the first one to use the new video equipment the college had bought. I made films and videos. My first documentary was Singlehomlessness in Liverpool and was funded by the Liverpool pools milionaire John Moore. It was used to show the social services in Liverpool what the 'big picture' was. My first job in film was with Open Eye as a film-maker/producer/camera/editor. This post was funded by the Mersyside Arts Council. My next was as Youth Film Advisor for Oxford County Council. I founded the Oxford Filmmakers Workshop in 1976 and continued to not only make my own films but to teach others and help them make their first and subsequent films. I also set up film screenings and festivals and provided to others with opportunities that could launch them into film making careers. In 1985 I set up Africa word and Image to work in Africa with African filmmakers and made a number of films before closing this company in order to concentrate on writing a number of novels. You will find details of these on other parts of this site. I was on a number of film committies including the British Film Institue Reginal Consultative Committiee and the Women's Film and Television Network Executive Committiee. When Paul Rotha was alive I worked with him and adapted a novel by Robert Newman called Children of Vienna into a screen play for a children's feature film. We were offered money to make it by the Children's Film Foundation but I had to turn it down because Paul Rotha had a heart attack and was unable to work on it. It had been a film he had planned to make since 1948 and I could not take it off him in these circumstances even though it was suggested I go ahead without him. Enemies is my second completed feature length screenplay and this is now ready to start moving into pre-production (fundraising stage). This is the film being set up with the Movie Certificate's. So if you are interested go to MOVIE for details. |
