I spent my last weekend and the first few days of the week battling with the continuous fevers, the sickening nausea and the unbearable throwing up.
60 days after my transplant I was given my first day off from the hospital. Tuesday, 27 June 2000 was the first day I did not have to visit the hospital at all since the last week of April. It was a wonderful day for me. I felt great, no fevers, no nausea and no throwing up.
The following day I was back at the hospital for the regular drill. Since I was feeling a little better and the CMV virus was slowly coming under control the doctors decided to change my anti-viral medication to the original drug called Gangciclovir which is less harsh on my fragile body. So I am still required to visit the hospital everday because this episode is not over yet. I guess one day is better then none.
By Wednesday the fevers had completely subsided and the nausea and throwing up was very much less as well. I am currently working on getting my energy levels back up again after this exhausting battle.
My white blood cell count has reached the six marker and my red blood cell and platelet counts are also climbing slowing.
Although I am still required to visit the hospital everyday I will try and enjoy the wonderful warm and sunny days as much as I can.
