MARGARET'S MUSINGS

Hello Folks:

We've had a glorious summer this year-weeks of brilliantly sunny days with temperatures climbing into the '30s. I hope you all enjoyed the season, whether it was strolling through the flower-bedecked plazas in downtown Vancouver, watching the Tall Ships sail into our waters, or spending a day or two with friends and family at the beach or in Stanley Park. Our Club had its own special occasions too this summer: the celebration of Anglo-Indian Day on August 2nd, and our picnic get together, once again generously hosted by Ian Currie and Raywyn Erickson.

However, as most of us know, time zips by all too quickly and the mellowness of Fall is now upon us bringing with it the nip of cooler weather and earlier evening shadows. Some of us are planning holidays in warmer climes, and others looking forward to hitting the ski slopes of Grouse, Seymour or Whistler.

This edition of our Newsletter has our usual potpourri of news, views, sense and nonsense, which I hope will continue to inform and entertain our readers. While the Alaska cruise for September 2003 has generated some interest from the Community in Australia, Britain and the U.S., there hasn't been much of a response from our local membership An alternative idea was raised by some folks at our picnic and so, (Alaska aside) we wondered whether a 7-day hotel/transportation package including a few days in Vegas, and a cruise back home up the coast from L.A., might be more attractive to our B.C. based members.

As part of our Fall social calendar, we hope you'll come by with friends and family to haunt our Halloween pot-luck dance on Saturday October 26th. It is a hugely popular and highly 'spirited' event where ghouls groan, witches cackle, devils dance and sirens sing (at the Karaoke microphone!) all night long. Tickets are on sale now, so contact one of our Committee members soon!

The next issue of our Newsletter will be our Yuletide edition. I hope you'll share with us your favorite Christmas recipes, family anecdotes, recollections of Christmas Past and, for those of you who are artistically talented, how about sending us your craft decorating ideas too.

Cheers,

Margaret
