NEWS FROM MEMBERS

Hi Margaret:

Thanks for putting in my picture with Ashley and Brenda Oliver and Anne Ruttan. A special thanks to everyone who advised me as to where we could get the Puttoo Rice.

Regards,
Lexa (Daniels)

Lexa attached this photograph of our Vancouver Island members

From left to right: Ted and Beryl LeFeuvre, Patricia McLellan, Lorraine D'Cruz, Anna Barker and Richard Barker (Lexa's brother and sister-in-law).

Anna Barker, one of our members on Vancouver Island is a very successful hair designer and the owner of a salon (Hair Designs International) in Victoria. As a Manager and instructor at a hair dressing school, she oversees the training of between 30 and 40 cosmetologists.
Anna has distinguished herself in her professional field as an International Judge for the Asian Pacific Hair Olympics in Bangkok in March 2002, and is a Silver Medal Master Judge of Canada as well as a Master Colourist. Her expertise takes her around the globe attending Hair World competitions in Seoul, Germany and most recently in Las Vegas (July 2002).
In addition to all this, Anna
has an extensive training in Aromatherapy, which she now includes as part of the services offered in her Victoria based salon.

Pat Peirce also sent me photo clippings from Monthly Magazine of the All-India Anglo-Indian Association on the occasion of their Annual General Meeting. President-in-Chief of the All India Anglo-Indian Association, Neil O'Brien (wearing a bow tie) is front-centre. Unfortunately no other people were identified, but perhaps some of you will recognize friends, and if you do, please contact me [email protected] so that I can add the appropriate caption
The mural in the background is intended to depict the achievements of the Community in India.

OBITUARY: CHARLOTTE ELAINE KNIGHT

Pat also wrote to pass on some sad news which he thought might be relevant to ex-Calcuttans. Charlotte Elaine Knight (nee Cranenburg) passed away on August 28, 2002 after a battle with Hodgin's Disease Lymphoma diagnosed in March this year. Charlotte used to live on Wellesley Street and her Dad was with the Calcutta Customs. Perhaps many of you Calcutta-wallahs may remember her as Sharon Berg, the name she used when she sang at Trincas in the early '60s.
