President's Message

Dear Members:

Another summer is behind us and most vacationers will be slowly getting back into their daily routines. The Executive Committee will soon begin fine tuning details for the many events scheduled for the remainder of 2002.

The first Anglo Indian Day celebration on August 2 was a rip-roaring success, I hear. Nearly 100 guests enjoyed a sumptuous smorgasbord at the Grand Buffet Restaurant in Richmond. Unfortunately (!) Nita and I were miles away in Mexico, lazing in the heat, enjoying the food and drinks under the palm trees, and thinking that we had been transported back to a beach resort in India! We had you all in our thoughts that Friday evening and kept up this guessing game about what could have been unfolding in Richmond at the same time! We came up with some hilarious scenarios - so we too had fun on AI Day, from afar.

A big and warm THANK YOU, Ian and Raywyn, for being such great hosts. Their backyard picnic on August 24 for friends and members was a great way to spend a warm summer afternoon. The porker on the spit, the leg o' lamb, the wonderful dancers and the friendly company all contributed to a fantastic event.

The success of these summer events was due largely to the great turn out. Having sufficient guests attend makes the hard work of organizing and planning worthwhile. So, while the Executive Committee begins rolling up their sleeves to get the next events off the drawing board, I urge you to please mark these important dates in your calendars and start calling your friends to join us.

Our annual Halloween Nite is on schedule for October 26 at the South Arm Community Center in Richmond. Our goal is to have at least 200 guests, so please promote this event among your friends and relatives. As you all know this is the one function where we are able to raise funds for the club coffers to help subsidize all other events. Tickets are already on sale. Also, reserve your seats for the New Year's Eve Dance at the Thompson Community Center, Richmond. Contact any of the Committee members for either tickets or information.

Best wishes to all of you and your families.
Clary.
