| The Storms of Life | ||||||||||||
| The storms we face in this temporal life here on earth are real. Countless struggles and obstacles of all kinds riddle the winding roads we all must travel in our life times. Believers must immerse themselves in the Scriptures and prayer, always asking God for insight and strength to withstand the wiles of the devil. (Eph. 6:11). Reading Mark 4:37-39, paints us a vivid picture of the disciples with our Lord and Savior, Jesus, in the midst of a great storm. Scripture reads in verse, thirty seven, and there arose a great storm of wind and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. How many times have we been spiritually, emotionally and some times even physically beaten by the storms? We all can attest to being shaken by these storms. But this does not mean we are overtaken by them. Looking at verse, thirty eight, it reads, and He was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow and they awake Him and say unto Him, Master carest thou not that we perish? Just imagine, Jesus lying asleep on a pillow, in the midst of a raging storm, while the disciples are filled with panic and uncertainty. This is truly a defining moment. Why do you think Jesus was unmoved by the chaos that surrounded Him? Since the day of His birth, Jesus knew exactly who He was, His purpose and what it would take to overcome. Not just for Himself, but for all of those who believe in Him. At times, do we forget who we are in Christ? Do we forget about our purpose? Jesus had no doubt regarding His identity or the power that dwelled within Him, neither should we! When the disciples awoke Jesus and said, Master, carest thou not that we perish. their faith had began to waiver. They thought the storm was about to overtake them, to the point of death. That is not the case, when we Focus on Jesus, and not the storms. In verse, thirty nine, Scripture tells us, and He arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, peace be still. And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Jesus arose, meaning He stood up! We too as Believers must stand up, and rebuke the storms of life. Second Timothy, chapter one, verse seven tells us God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind, Jesus Himself set the course of action for us all who whole heartedly follow Him. Rest assure even in the midst of the storms the SON shines. Samuel Jurado 11.04.04 |
