People make mistakes from time to time. Sometimes these mistakes are small. Sometimes times the mistakes are so large as to be almost impossible to fix alone. I have reached such a time. The truth is we all need a helping hand from time to time in our lives. So, I am asking for the help now.
It all started innocently enough. I walked into a Structure store to buy some clothing. The girl at the counter told me I could get 10% off if I applied for there store card. I figured 10% was a nice savings and applied. Poof. With no previous credit whatsoever I got the card in just a minute.
Off that one little card I started down a path that would eventually lead to the place I am in today. In debt and hopeful that I can find kind souls to help me get back on my feet.
Things started slow. I would receive an offer for a card once in a while. Sometimes I would apply. Other times I would throw the offers away. But, then the offers started coming more often. And, some were just to good to pass up. So I applied for the ones I thought were good. Then more offers came my way. And the next thing you know it I had a bunch of cards. And more credit than you can shake a stick at.
In the beginning I managed my debt well. I bought things I need and was good about paying off items quickly. I hated paying interest. But, somewhere along the line things changed. As luck would have it I hit a couple of rough spots over the years. I lost a job here and there and need to pay the bills. My credit was good so I used my cards while I was looking for more work. That was understandable. I needed to eat and keep a roof over my head. I needed clothing to wear. As soon as my new job came I would pay off the credit cards and things would be square again.
Well, that great job never landed in my lap. Work was hard to come by so I had to start making minimum payments. Eventually I realized I was getting nowhere fast. I needed a new direction to go.
So, like any other inventive person, I decided to open up my own business. If the people in charge were not going to pay me what I was worth, I would go it alone. Surely then I would then be making what I was worth.
I didn’t turn out to be that easy. The business needed inventory. Inventory costs money. The business needed office supplies. Office supplies costs money. The business needed exposure. Advertising costs money. And since I was starting with nothing, I had to get the money from somewhere. My credit was still good. I would just use that money to get myself going.
Fortune 500 Companies start the same. With only and idea. They need backing to get going. I was no different.
I was determined to make a go at it. I, for a brief period of time, was moving in the right direction. Then the bottom fell out of the stock market. My business suffered the same fate. Every attempt to turn my business around failed because the economy was stuck in a major rut.
Finally, I realized that I needed more than just determination to get myself going in the right direction again. I needed help to get rid of my debt. If I could get rid of my debt I could refocus my resources and move forward instead of backwards. That is where you come in to the picture.
Think about a 1dollar bill and what it buys today.
$1 doesn’t buy three stamps anymore.
$1 once you add taxes it doesn’t even by as $.99 burger from the value menu at your favorite fast food place.
$1 almost buys 2 blanks cds.
$1 doesn’t buy a gallon of gas anywhere that I know.
$1 doesn’t buy much at the dollar store.
$1 is not even considered a good tip.
$1 won’t buy a toothbrush.
$1 hardly buys a quart of milk.
$1 won’t buy a cheap frozen pizza anymore.
And the list goes one. What’s my point? It is that, when you think of it, $1 isn’t that much. So, sending $1 my way will not hurt your bottom line. It won’t put you in the poor house. But, if I get enough people to send my $1, it will change my life. Send $5 and that makes my debt go away that much faster. Or 10. Or 20. Etc.
I am not proud of the debt that I have accumulated. If I could live that part of my life over again, I would make lots of different decisions. But, I can’t change the past. I have to deal with the present. And, at the present, I need help.
The help I need is assistance in getting rid of my debt. That is where you and other income sources will come into play. Also, I have been studying ways to economize my life and will save there too. Every little bit will help.
What will I do with the money you send? It will be used to pay off the credit cards bills. I see that as my most pressing problem.
After my debt is paid off I will pick another deserving person and pass the torch in their direction. And in turn they will most likely do the same. It is one person helping another. With the success that will come from getting rid of my debt I will be able to help others in the same situation I am in right now.
