April 22, 2004

I cannot believe it is already the end of April. I know everyone always says that time flies, but it really does when you are having a good time. As the end of April rapidly approaches, the weather in Malta has become quite enjoyable. The past month I have been quite busy. I began my dive master which has been very interesting, fun and stimulating. I love being in the water and improving my dive skills. I also enjoy gaining a deeper insight in dive knowledge and theory.

I just recently returned from a Contiki Tour where I had an amazing experience. I went on the European Encounter tour, a tour that briskly sweeps through Europe in 16 days and provides a taste of many different countries and cultures! We went from London to the Netherlands to Germany to Switzerland. Austria, to Venice to Rome, to Florence. From Florence to Monaco and Nice, than Lyon and we ended our tour en Paris! There were 38 of us on tour, although we were all very different, everyone came with a great attitude, I feel so fortunate to have met such wonderful people while seeing sights that I have only read about!

Many people ask me which place in Europe is my favourite place, that is like comparing chocolate mouse cake to cherry cheesecakethey are all so enriching and beautiful, but it depends on your mood! I really did love Rome; there is something very powerful about the city as you see the ancient ruins and Coliseum, alongside a warm culture and some of the trendiest and most modern fashions in the world!

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a waste of time! Paris is wonderful, but the top of the Eiffel Tower is NOT romantic (seeing as you wait in a huge line to get to the top, than another huge line to get downand while you are at the top there are hundreds of people!). Venice is incredibly romantic; in fact, a couple on tour (Robert and Anne) got engaged in a gondola!

The Mountain air in Switzerland and Austria tastes completely fresh and pure. The food tastes great in every country, as does the cheap wine I often downed with my meals!

After an experience that has provided lifelong memories, I am back in reality, yet it isnt actually reality. I am back in the Mediterranean, in Malta. As all my friends back in Canada are completing their final exams of their undergraduate, I still have 2 months of school to get through whilst being distracted by the beaches and sea! I have formulated a new daily routine. I wake up early in the morning and I jog along the coast for 30 minutes. I listen to the waves crash on the rock beach, and watch the sun beam on the sea, creating diamond reflections across the water. I than come home and read, I go to my classes during the day, and enjoy dinner with my roommates at night. I feel I may as well indulge in the lifestyle here while I can, because in 2 months I am graduating with an Honours English degree, and I still have not heard from any Law Schools. The uncertainty intensifies.

I am not too concerned, I am sure it will all work out in the end. I will just complete my course work, enjoy the sun and sea and in a mere 8 weeks I will return to reality!
