My Tarter ancestors occur in both my maternal and paternal lines.  My great grandmother in my Flanagan line, Armilda Gadberry Flanagan was the daughter of Martha Ann Tarter and Andrew Jackson  "A.J." Gadberry. Martha was born December 14, 1840 Pulaski Co. and died January 21, 1923 Russell Co. She married "A.J."  September 10, 1863 She was his second wife, his first wife being her 2nd cousin. A.J. (b 1835  d 1906) is buried between both wives at the Military Springs Cemetery at Jabez, Russell Co., KY.

My grandmother in my Ashbrook line, Mittie Young Ashbrook was the daughter of Willis McKinley Tarter and Robert Gilmore Young.   Willis (named for her father) was the daughter of Willis C. Tarter b abt 1831  d bef 1894 and Serena "Rennie" Fry b February 13, 1847  d May 19, 1916.  Willis and Rennie were married in Russell Co., June 6, 1867. They are buried at the Pottershop Cemetery, Faubush, KY.  Unfortunately Willis' gravestone is erroneously engraved "William" and Serena's says "Arrena". Willis' has no dates only states that he served in Co. C, 32nd KY INF.

Serena is  the daughrer of Charles W. Fry and Lucinda McClendon. Charles is beleievd to be the son of Christina Fry Ashbrook and Unknown.
