It's that time again...time to sort your recycleables for pick-up! Confused whenever it comes to this activity? Not to worry, so am I. That is why I get my own Recycling Stick-Man to help me out! Read on to discover nifty doses to sorting your recycleables, and soon, you can turn this dragging chore into a lot of fun! |
| The Blue Box Description: This beautiful plastic box comes in shades of blue, dark blue, and dirty blue (depending on how well you take care of it). It usually comes in industrial sizes to store all your recycled bulk, or cute li'l mini-sizes for in-the-office use. Now, isn't that nifty! What to dump in: Cans (all types except those that are Non-Recycleable), bottles, milk jugs, plastics with the "special recycle sign", etc.... FAQ: So, do I keep the lids of the bottles on or off? Recycle Stick-Man says: That is your own personal preference. Some people like to keep them on, some people prefer them off. At school where Harmony volunteered, it was customary to throw the lids in the garbage (for efficiency). However, at home, the lids are kept on. ??? Enlighten me. How about the labels on the bottles? Recycle Stick-Man says: Again, that is a personal preference. At certain places, the labels must be kept on when you return them so that you can prove that the bottle was from Canada (with English AND French labels). However, at home, the bottles are recycled naked and without their labels. ??? *Also, don't forget to wash out your bottles before you throw them in. The Recycle Stick-Man does not like animals rummaging through his property* The Blue Bag Description: Another nifty addition to the Blue Box is, for lack of a better name, the Blue Bag. This shiny plastic blue bag fits snugly into your blue box for pick-up and is durable to all weather conditions. What to dump in: Newspaper print paper and non-glossy flyers. FAQ: What constitutes "non-glossy flyers"? Recycle Stick-Man says: Non-glossy flyers feel like newspaper print. However, the newer printing companies have these things called "in-betweenies", where it looks just like glossy-print, but is not quite, so watch out for those. *As a desperate measure: rub your finger vigorously over the coloured ink. If it comes off on your finger, it belongs in the Blue Bag.* The Yellow Bag Description: A complementary addition to the blue bag is the Yellow Bag. It is basically the same as the Blue Bag, except it is yellow. What to dump in: Regular paper, glossy flyers, magazines, cardboard-y material (ex. tissue box) FAQ: NONE Recycle Stick-Man says: Good. I need a break. |
