Kellen looked out from under his crown of white hair watching the man as he looked around the bar. He walked like he was stalking someone, slow, deliberate movements. He could picture the man pouncing, roaring lionlike as he caught some prey. Kellen had known him for years, ever since they had been on a run, not quite together. A temporary alliance brokered by a fixer. Neither had liked it. More animosity ran between them than could be measured on any meter stick.
Blue eyes met darkest brown eyes as he sneered at Kellen. Kellen's face didn't change but his grip on the glass that he was holding tightened to almost breaking point. Kellen looked away, watching his old adversary in the mirror behind the bar, suffering the corruptions of the images as he passed through sections covered by bottles.
He watched the man search through the crowd, looking for something, someone. He glanced over at the mirror and caught Kellen's eye again, grinning that predatory smile again. Realisation filled Kellen. The bastard was planning something. Kellen's fist closed tightly and the glass shattered. Kellen didn't notice. He was already out of his seat and heading to the dancefloor. But the other man was moving faster. Kelled tried to remember to breathe but he was more intent on getting to his teammates and one in particular. A path appeared in front of him as wannabe's and hardened runners got out of his way. They were there for fun not to be caught in the middle of a fight... Unless the fight paid of course.
He saw who he was looking for. The emerale green eyes and auburn hair were unmistakable. Of course, the troll dancing beside his elf didn't hurt for confirmation. He saw the man approach Tantrik from behind and start dancing, moving closer until he was practically molded to the shorter elf's body. Kellen's hands twitched to his empty holsters as he cursed.
The man looked over the elf's shoulder as Kellen approached, bending to whisper something in Tantrik's ear. Kellen couldn't make it out over the heavy base beat. The elf laughed lightly, turning to look up at the samurai. The samurai's arms snaked around Tantrik's waist. The elf looked down, suddenly going serious. He pushed against the other man's chest. And then Kellen was there.
"Kacey..." Kellen practically growled the word out.
The other man smiled broadly, releasing Tantrik almost reluctantly. Tantrik looked between the two. Kellen held out his arm to Tantrik. He looked confused for a moment and then Tantrik slid happily under the offered arm as it rested lightly around his shoulders.
"What are you doing in this part of town, Kacey?" Kellen was still growling, his eyes hard and dark.
"Just out for a good time," Kacey's voice was playful but his eyes were roving over Tantrik in a way that made Kellen want to remove them.
"I hear there's a good place a few blocks over!" Kellen replied, trying to keep his voice even.
"I kinda like this place, though. Nice scenery." Kacey sneered.
Kellen looked around, catching the eyes of Pink, KO and Alison. They formed up behind Kacey still apparently not paying attention to anything but the music but Kellen knew better. So did Kacey!
"I'd urge you to reconsider!" Kellen snarled.
Kacey was about to object with KO's hand dropped on his shoulder. He almost buckled.
"Fine! Fine! Call off the brick! I'm gone!" Kacey glared at Kellen.
Kellen nodded and KO lifted her hand. Kacey took one more look at Kellen and Tantrik and turned on his heel.
"Queer!" Kellen just picked up the word over the din.
"Kell?" Tantrik was looking up at him, questioningly. "Who was the attitude problem?"
"No one important." Kellen answered.
Tantrik wasn't bought off with the answer and Kellen knew it.
"Kell?" A slight tone of warning was creeping into Tantrik's voice as he looked up at his lover.
"My brother!" Kellen answered. "Now, don't I owe you a dance?"
Tantrik looked at the retreating figure. He would press Kellen on it later but for now, he would dance. It was hard enough to get the samurai on the dance floor. Tantrik smiled and started moving to the movement. Kellen cast a final look at his brother as he disappeared out the door. He'd be back, that was for certain, but not tonight. So for tonight, he'd dance.
