Rage looked at the woman beside him. Her long dark hair blowing slightly in the breeze as she walked along beside him, the sun shining off her PVC halter top and tiny PVC skirt. Her four inch PVC sandals echoed as she walked. He couldn't take his eyes off her, she was beautiful.
"Spare change, Sir!"
Rage was startled from his reverie. His hand slid into his pocket but all that was in there was a credchip with EB400 on it from the job they had just finished. He apologized quietly to the begging woman, starting on his way again.
"Enjoy your whore!"
The comment would have gone unheard except for the amplified hearing mod settled in his army issue cyberaudio socket. He felt the woman beside him stiffen as he stopped.
Turning, he said, "Apologize!"
The filthy woman, still sitting in the garbage at the side of the street looked slightly shocked that he had heard her comment.
"Don't like the truth, eh? You can afford a whore like that, but you can't spare a few bucks for charity. Go on! Go! Take her home! I'm sure that if you pay her enough, she'll even say she loves you and look like she means it, but never forget that as soon as you hand over the green, she'll be gone and all you'll have is whatever disease she leaves you with ..."
Before she can continue on her tirade, Rage walks forward. With one hand, he lifts her up by the throat, slamming her back against a wall in one single move.
"Apologize to my wife!" he snarled.
"Whore!"
"Woman, that's about all I'm going to take from you!"
His hand tightened around the beggar’s throat. Through the haze of hatred he was feeling, he felt a hand touch his arm. He looked over and into a pair of soft brown eyes.
"Leave her, Rage! She's not worth it!" Hope said softly.
Rage's grip loosened and the woman dropped. He looked at her with contempt before turning his back on her. Hope fell into step beside Rage as they left the woman behind to clutch her reddened neck.
"Thanks honey," Hope started, "but I can defend my own honour, you know!"
Rage had the decency to blush as he realized that Hope was teasing him about his chivalrous side.
"But at least we know what to do if we run out of cred!"
