AlleyKat stowed her gun under her bed and walked into the sitting room. She was jaded after the last mission. Cracking her neck, she tried to relax. She looked down, stretching her neck. On the floor she saw some purple thread. In fact, she saw a trail of purple thread on the floor, looping its way around the furniture.
“Miaow!”
A small, playful, black kitten caught sight of her and pounced on her foot. She bent to pick it up and noticed some purple thread wrapped around its paw. She unwound the thread. The kitten started wriggling to get down as soon as the thread was gone. AlleyKat followed the kitten, wondering where all the thread had come from.
On the floor beside the old battered couch she found the cause. The kitten was nestled in a ball of purple thread that used to be Serenity’s favourite top.
AlleyKat bent to pick the ruined sweater up and found only one piece remaining, what used to be an arm. It was covered in black cat hair. She started scooping up the remains of the garment, hoping to hide it before Serenity came back…
A click behind her made her spin. Serenity! She was standing there looking at the pile of string AlleyKat held in her arms.
"It was like that when I got here...only more purple and less fuzzy."
Serenity tried to hold a stern face as AlleyKat came up with an explanation, but failed when she saw the mock-innocent face of her kitten poking out from the fuzz that used to be her sweater.
“Don’t sweat it!” She laughed, “You just owe me a new top!”
“Me?!” AlleyKat almost shrieked.
“Yeah, you paid to get the cat vat-grown, you could have obedience chipped it while you were at it!”
AlleyKat smiled, looking down at the mixture of black and purple fluff in her arms.
“Okay, I guess I owe you a sweater!”
