Tie Dye Shirt
1. Performance Indicators (Objectives) for the lesson:
Students will be able to: Produce a tie dye shirt using reactive dyes. Understand concepts of designing a tie dye. Choose colors and method of tying the shirt. Follow specific directions and safety and cleanup instructions.
2. Instructional Strategies:
The teacher will: Prepare reactive dyes and shirts as per directions on package. Write each students� name on the shirts with a permanent marker. Soak shirts in pre-dye solution, following directions on package. Fill squirt bottles with dye and set up area outside. Demonstrate tie dye procedures. Instruct students to use latex gloves and to avoid getting the dye on their skin or in their eyes. Pass out shirts, gloves, and rubber bands. Supervise students as they make their tie dye shirts. Place shirts into a plastic bag and plastic storage container. After 48 hours, the shirts should be washed and treated as per instructions on package.
3. Assessment Strategies:
The students will demonstrate mastery of the objectives through: projects, design decisions, teacher observation, and cleanup procedures.
4. Adaptive Strategies:
ADAPT strategies will be utilized in lessons: Assistance will be given by the education support team. Complex directions will be simplified and repeated. Eye contact will be made during verbal instructions. Teach at the instructional level. Use IEP�s as the basis for adaptation. Preferential seating, teaching to mastery, and independent study. Alternative activities, alternative assignments, acceleration, cooperative learning, and modified assignments. Modified expectations, limited choices and number of questions. Support in classroom from the educational support team, repeated practice with the educational support team, and positive reinforcement will be employed.
5. Materials/ Resources:
scissors, cotton t-shirts, plastic bags, newspaper, reactive fabric dyes, squeeze bottles, water, plastic storage containers.
