We stopped
very briefly at the Dwyer's - my aunt and uncle.  Laura, her husband Steve, and their girls, Emma and Natasha, had gotten in last night - or early this morning, actually.  I wasn't there long enough to break the ice with the girls.  They are gorgeous!  Steve is Japanese-Canadian and Laura's got a mix of Irish, English and French.  The combination made for two lovely little girls.

Laura is excited for the "Big Party" on Saturday and for my birthday party.  I think she's ready to tear it up.  I may go back after dinner, as I left my camera there.

My cousin Danny's girl, Hannah, was there too.  I spoke to her briefly, reintroducing myself.  They were all shy, but I remember enough how it feels to constantly be asked, "You don't remember me now, do you?  Oh no... last time I saw you, you were nothing but a baby.  Why, now you're a proper young lady!"  Eish.

I also say Melody, my second cousin - or is it first cousin once removed?  I never know.  Anyhow, we saw her over at the garage getting their turkey.  She didn't have time to talk, but she was excited to see me and is also looking forward to The Big Party.

It always surprises me how excited they are to see us.  We barely know each other, really, and I haven't always been in the happiest of spirits when I'm up here.  I'm not sure I'd be terribly excited to see me!

I want to try to keep in better communication with my cousins.  True, we are scattered from coast to coast and throughout two countries, but it's never been easier to stay in touch with people.  Hooray for the Internet!

What an ironic thing to celebrate, while mourning the loss of a root cellar.

Great Uncle Pat is here for supper now, so I am going to go down and say hello.  It gets harder and harder to find a quiet second to write!
