All set to go onto the Funktionsprufstand (car test stand) for our final VW inspection.
Here you see the VW on the stand. This operation is really something to see: wheels turning, brakes screeching, engine
revving, the inspector watching dials and going through a detailed list of 115 check points. (It's almost like a count-down.)
And it's done for one purpose: to make sure this particular VW, like all others, has turned out all right.
Before the car has reached the Funktions- prufstand, each VW part has undergone a complete inspection. For example, we test every shock absorber and every crankshaft. Every phase of engine performance. We go over every windshield carefully. The door handles. The chrome. We even have an inspector wit h a big red pencil who does nothing but draw circles and mark X's on the car. His job: to look for and reject VWs that have the most minute surface scratches. (One VW in fifty is rejected at the factory.)
It's no wonder when you drive home in a new VW, that all the doors close. And all the windows work. Properly. And there aren't any mysterious noises and/or irritating squeaks.
All the parts fit all the others.
