Personal Equipment (2)

This is the 'essential' part to what I do. These items process and accentuate the sounds on offer from my guitars. The amplifier is often deemed to be as important as the axe, and rightly so. Without the proper gear, your guitar will be made to sound very ordinary, and can be often 'under-selling' its full potential. I don't have the best gear available, but gear that is sufficient for the stage I am at in guitaring.

This is my current amplifier, and it's a Laney GC30 combo amp. It comprises gain, overdrive (foot switch operated) bass, mid, treble, master volume and great reverb. Essentially, you wouldn't need separate distortions from a stomp box, as this provides from smooth bluesy distortion, to excellent crunchy metal distortion. It has a 10" x 14" speaker, but unfortunately, its not tube driven, but transistor. It retailed at about £230, but I hunted around, and paid only £75 for it.

I paid £85 for this Morley wah, and it was worth it. It has an excellent sweep range on it, it's just a sub-standard Bad Horsie.

This is just a cheap volume pedal (£30), and gives me more control over my gain level, because it's easily accessible.

This is where the fun begins. It's an old Zoom FX model (1010), but does the job well enough. It comprises 16 user defined patches, and 30 default patches. With various effects available (compression, 16 distortions, wah, delay, reverb, flange), there's really no end to the sounds you can produce. As it's old (about 5 years), it simply doesn't compete with today's models, but is sufficient for the first few years of playing. It retailed at about £110, I paid £30 for it, off a mate in College...Not bad.
