About the Author

Well, this is my ugly mug folks. I was born on December 11th 1981, and started playing guitar in February 2000. I'm self taught, I like to go about things the hard way, but I'm doing ok I guess. I have always had an appreciation for guitar, so I decided to start myself.

Im currently living in Scotland, and I'm studying Automotive Engineering at Bell College of Technology in Hamilton. I'm very much a blues and rock orientated guy, but I can just bear a wee bit of metal. My favourite artist include Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Eddie Van Halen and Jimi Hendrix. I don't simply judge a guy on how fast he can solo, but on the diversity to his play i.e. How original is he? How much feeling does he have? Will his playing have an effect on other people?
I aim to start gigging in about another 2 or 3 years, but right now, I'm quite content playing alone, and building up my capabilities. I'm by no means a great player, but I'm not bad. I prefer to play acoustic, and I have a penchant for playing slide. I don't believe in over-abusing the natural sound a guitar produces, i.e. using heavy distortions to combat mistakes which the ear would identify when playing clean. If I had to name a particular tone. my favourite would have to be that of Stevie Ray Vaughan's. He has the ultimate fat-strat tone, and it makes blues sound so much deeper. Other factors also affect it like the heavy strings he used, and he also tuned down half a step on most occasions.
