"Committee on Student Affairs Report"
given to Board of Trustee members
"Several members of the Board of Trustees received a videotape last October made by students who are currently or are in the process of becoming TPDM (Television, Photography, and Digital Media) majors. This videotape explained the frustrations and concerns of the students when they found out that the TPDm program was being merged with the ART department. A number of costly errors by the Gallaudet Administration with the (including an erroneous campus-wide email being sent out) sparked the controversy. Several issues have arisen from this, and I have been in touch with Dean Dillehay about this and she is aware of the issues surrounding this. In the future it is strongly recommended that all issues that pertain academic welfare be shred with the student body- especially the majors- before being implemented. None of the TPDM majors had received notification or had any conversations with the deparmtnet professors before the merge occured. The TPDM students feel that they were left out of the decision making process and had no say in the department merge. Currently, the department still exists and there are still students signing up to become TPDM majors, but the anger and resentment is still with the majors and pre-majors. We are encouraging them to remain positive and calm in the face of this situation. For further information of how the students feel about this, information may be obtained from www.geocities.com/deafpixel."
