Originally a studio project of Dave Matthies, The Gift Machine first appeared live in the summer of '99 on tour with the Microphones, Karl Blau, and Nate Ashley. The Gift Machine now features Dave's brother Darrin on bass and vocals, and label mates Bill Cook and Nate Ashley on drums, guitar, keyboards, and xylophone, etc...
The Gift Machine has an album on Kwn-Yr-Own called "Sooner or Later" and a new album is scheduled to be released in the fall.
Both Dave and Darrin Matthies were born and raised in Skagit Valley and have never lived outside Washington State. Both site Built to Spill, Quasi, the Beach Boys, the Velvet Underground, the Microphones and Karl Blau as big influences on their sound.
