The institution of Deadsy was created in 1995 by P. Exeter Blue and Alec Püre. Exeter sent Dr. Nner Yekwah a Juno-106 keyboard as an invitation to join, and several demos were recorded. Deadsy signed to Sire Records, recruiting Jay Gordon (later, of Orgy) on bass, and began work on a self-titled record, which was released for promotion in 1997. The Beast joined as a full-time member on bass, and work progressed on a new record. Because of the Sire/Elektra split, Deadsy was dropped from the label and Commencement (1999), was never officially released. After that, Carlton Megalodon joined on Z-tar and guitar and Deadsy signed to Elementree Records. New songs were written and combined with pre-existing ones for the official release of Commencement in 2002, when Creature took the place of the Beast. In 2006, Phantasmagore was released, followed by the departure of Creature, and the recruitment of Jens Funke.
