Rick Savage
Well, that's all I have to say about the man myself, but I have a greater treat for you!  Connie Peek, our resident Sav-lover and expert has written a few words about her favourite bassist to enlighten us all, and hopefully explain why she thinks he's so fab.

Thanks, Connie!!

What can I say about my favorite Leppard, Rick "Sav" Savage?

To begin with, he's a
fantastic bassist!  He also has the most beautiful, blue eyes and sweet smile.  I just love his voice, and that adorable laugh - and let's not forget that beautiful hair!

He's also a great soccer player, but I'm glad he decided to play bass instead of soccer.

I have never met him, but this is my goal in life.  He comes across as a very sweet person.

On January 12, 1994, he suffered an attack of Bell's Palsey, which left the right side of his face partially paralized.  I was devastated!  I really couldn't believe it.  This was not a good time for my favorite Leppard, but he has adopted a positive outlook on the situation.  I really admire him!  He's the
best!

A Def Leppard concert is
very exciting!  Of course, I am watching Sav almost the entire time.  Watching him onstage is great - his moves!  And who can forget the famouse "Bang Lift" on Pour Some Sugar On Me?  I like that one!!

Sav wrote the song
Goodbye, which I truly love.  I hope that he will be giving us more like that one, it's so beautiful.  I've almost worn my Euphoria CD out listening to that one!

Sav is just a beautiful person - inside, and out, and one day I hope to meet him.  I'm really looking forward to the next album, and tour.

I will be watching, Sav!!!!
Back to Leppographies!
E-mail me, Sav fans!
Football aside though, he was always particularly close to Joe (except on days when the Owls met the Blades) and they used to (and probably still do) play golf together.  He also lives in the same town as Joe, good old Dublin, with his girlfriend Paige and (relatively) new baby boy, Tyler.  (Aww.)

Despite being credited along with the others as writing most songs on most albums, Sav only really came out of the song-writing closet for Euphoria, on which he offered everyone's favourite ballad, 'Goodbye'.  If this is indicative of the sort of standard we can expect from all his songs then I for one hope he'll be pushing himself on the new album, too!
Born Richard Savage on December 2nd 1960 in - yes, you guessed it! - Sheffield.
He was heading for an illustrious career as a footballer playing for (oh the irony) Sheffield United, arch rivals of his beloved Wednesday, when the prospect of being a rock 'n' roll star became more appealing and he wisely decided to stick to playing bass in Def Leppard.
A little note here - as I understand it, back in the late 70s when Sav was playing for United they were a pretty darn good team (not that they aren't now...towards the bottom of Division One...) but footballers didn't get paid as much as they do now, so music was probably the better option.
Our esteemed bassist.
