Joe Elliott
Born Joseph Thomas Elliott (don't you just love middle names?) on August 1st 1959 in...well, Sheffield. He came up with the whole concept of the band (known at the time as Deaf Leopard, for those of you who can still really spell those words ;) before he even had any fellow band members. We are told he drew posters advertising their concerts in his Art lessons, and even wrote concert reviews for his imaginary band in his English lessons. A good use of the time, I'd say. The posters especially impressed Sav, (although he admitted that they were "probably pretty tacky",) because they had a ready made band they could just step into. Thus, with a quick spelling change, Def Leppard was born.
His favourite song is certainly All The Young Dudes, written by David Bowie and borrowed by Mott, and doesn't that song make you feel all nostalgic whenever it comes on the radio? Favoured reading material would also seem to stem from Mott, in the form of 'Diary Of A Rock'N'Roll Star' by Ian Hunter, their lead singer. This book definitely comes recommended by both him and myself, as I am currently reading it, and it's hilarious and a great portrayal of what life was like for our classic heroes!
Joe can definitely be said to be quite into football (or soccer, if you prefer,) both on the playing side and the supporting side. His team is Sheffield United, or The Blades, who featured in the film 'When Saturday Comes', which Joe also wrote the music for! This is a highly entertaining film, providing you can put up with, once again, the all too familiar sight of Sean Bean in the nud! Joe and Sav would seem to be more into The Beautiful Game than their fellows, to the extent of donning their respective teams' gear for the encores of some live shows. As I write this, The Blades suffered a crushing defeat yesterday to the Wolves, going down 1 - 0. I will update this when I have happier news!
Not too long ago Joe was dabbling in his side project, the band Cybernauts, also featuring fellow Lepp Phil Collen. Right now he's with the guys in Dublin, where he is based, working on the much anticipated tenth Lepp album! You know where to go for all the news on that. DefLeppard.com also offer a good range of recent interviews and comments from the man himself, so it's well worth a look!
I'm hoping that at some point a truly massive Joe Fan will come into my life and do me the honour of writing a little bit about their idol for this page, like I've got for Sav. If that sounds like you then please drop me a line - I'd love to hear from you!

Our dynamic lead singer.
As far as can be gathered from what he has said in the past, one of Joe's favourite bands would have to be Mott The Hoople.
