BACK TO "my NIGHTMARE"
Sweeping close up of a heavily decayed calf...
Day 1 raw footage sheet for "my NIGHTMARE".

I reviewed all the footage before editing to note down everything I had in the order it turned up, listing which shot was best (in the case of multiple takes) and so on.
Blood oozing from the weapon of choice...

This was one of the shots used in the first sequence which hints at events that have occurred before everything that goes on in my film - hence the tagline: "The horror after the horror".
The title screen...

I wanted the titles and credits to look unique, so I ended up writing them all out by hand in this style which I developed specifically for this purpose. I then scanned everything in, jigged it around and voila!
A blood mix unlike that which we used throughout the film, but one which worked quite well in a little stream running by...this is one of my favourite shots. The driver (played by Gareth) screams as he comes face to face with his hunter - this is one of the "Evil Dead" inspired shots in the film.
Emma submerged in her character as the killer, I was really impressed by how she picked up on the subtle subtext of my script.
Over-exposure (as well as "Raimi angles" and a bizarre soundtrack I created) helped give scenes such as this a dream-like quality.
The cow shed of horrors!
Red Mire Lake
The driver sneaks up on the killer in a dream. My direction to Emma was simple - be a porcelain doll and react like one - i.e. be blank and still.
An example of how the visuals of the film were very important to me. I wanted to really make a film which looked great.
Again, Emma really got into the role and gave a scarily convincing performance as a maniac - complete with a 'thumbing the blade' shot.
Towards the end of "my NIGHTMARE", I began to blur the line between dream and reality even further (it's a subtle mix in the rest of the film).
This scene was shot over 2 weekends - hopefully the inevitable blood stain continuity isn't too noticeable. But then again, it doesn't matter!
The driver's throat slit open - blood spews out! Achieved quite simply - I'm squeezing the blood out behind his neck, my arm through a gap in the tree.
I went to town when it came to blood... The driver approaches the finale...
Emma's skill with a hatchet are second to none - she must be good as my head was right next to where to blade was hitting the ground...I didn't get chopped once! How's that for indie filmmaking?
