I was driving the interstate here in Oklahoma City where I live and saw a dead black cat on the shoulder.  I see a lot of strays and road kill here.  Just more of the disposable waste littering the country side, put there by us humans.  The really sad part for me is that it seems to matter not that this road kill was once living beings.  If they were human we would have a strong reaction, but its only a dog or cat or some hapless creature who strayed into the path of a hurtling vehicle, was impacted with the force of speed and metal, hardly a bump to the driver, but an unspeakable end to one whose only fault was to be the victim of the callousness and irresponsibility of human kind.  They are driven past and forgotten.  Or not noticed at all.  The countless, homeless strays I see dont fare any better.  They might escape death on the streets from traffic, only to starve or freeze or die of infestation under a bush, out of sight to non-caring eyes.  It makes me sad beyond description.  Im convinced that our humanity can never evolve beyond its basest level as long as we regard life, any life, as disposable.  Sadly, many times this is the way we regard each other.
