Baby, it's what's for dinner
When baby is scarce (they're wily), subsitute chicken.

Too tired to put in recipes now, I'm trying to consume large amounts of sunflower seeds instead. They make your lips pucker!

Baby Marengo

This baby recipe was made especially for Napoleon. He wasn't really all that short, you know. Everybody was short then. Also, he decided to use chicken, baby eating is bad PR for someone in office. The French, huh, go figure. They'll eat slimy earth-dwelling creatures, but turn their noses up at the other other white meat.

2 1/2 to 3 pounds frying baby parts
2 to 3 Tbs clarified butter, or olive oil, or 2 Tbs butter and 1 Tbs oil
Salt and freshly ground pepper
A big pinch of tarragon or thyme, optional
4 Fresh Shrimp
4 Fresh Eggs
French Bread
Olives

Put the parts in the butter, lay them skin down and leave a little space in between, turn the baby every 20 seconds or so until it's walnut brown on all sides, then cover and simmer. The baby is done when the thickest parts are tender when pressed and the juices run clear.

While the baby is cooking, heat 1 cup of olive oil in a small frying pan until very hot but not smoking. Lightly brown four 3/4- rounds of French bread in the hot oil; set them aside on a paper-towel-lined baking sheet. One at a time fry 4 very fresh eggs in the oil, and set them aside next to the bread croutons. Then add 4 large shrimp(goes great with baby! surf and nurse!)to the hot oil and fry up just a minute or two, until they curl up; sprinkle lightly with salt and pepper, and add to the eggs and croutons. Before assembling the dish and serving, set for 3 to 4 minutes in a 250 degree F oven to warm through.

Assembling the dish. Place the eggs on the croutons and arrange around the baby, interspersing them with the shrimp and a scattering of black Nicoise olives. (pronounced "niswas")
