Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity

Sigma Alpha Iota was founded on June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music in Ann Arbor, MI. Our founders were Elizabeth Campbell, Francis Caspari, Georgina Potts, Leila Farlin Laughlin, Mary Storrs Andersen, Minnie Davis Sherrill, and Nora Crane Hunt. These seven women "solemnly pledged themselves to help each other with sisterly affection, to stand for the highest musical scholarship, for nobility and uprightness of character and for the maintenance of friendly and unselfish relations among women in the musical profession."

In order to have the Sorority properly incorporated under Michigan State Laws, Articles of Association were drawn by Carl Storm, Attorney at Ann Arbor, signed on December 1, 1904, and recorded on December 15, 1904.

Northern Delaware Alumnae Chapter

In past years, Sigma Alpha Iota alumnae in the Delaware area have strived to create an alumnae chapter for those who live in the Southern portion of the Phi A province. Finally, the Northern Delaware Alumnae Chapter was installed on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at 3pm in the Amy E. duPont Music Building at the University of Delaware. We are pleased to finally take our place among the other chapters in this organization as the first Alumnae Chapter ever in the state of Delaware.

We first meet on November 16, 2004. We watched our membership slowly grow to include 18 chartering members: Jeanmarie Braddock, Amanda Cardillo, Lauren Cataldi-May, Alison Clark, Natalie Dize, Barbara Euculano, Rosa Maria Faulkner, V. Nicole Gallagher, Jennifer Lipinsky, Elizabeth Lockhart-Videtto, Kathryn Marino, Amanda Mill, Marybeth Miller, Lysbet Murray, Jennifer-Louise Palermo, Noreen Slease, Kim Walton, and Beth Warfel.

Since our chartering, we have been hard at work performing musicales and service projects. We have also affiliated several new members. We look forward to keeping up the momentum and growth in the coming year!
