2. Objectives
Standard Course of Study Goal English I:
1.02 Respond reflectively (individually
and in groups) to a variety of expressive texts
(e.g., memoirs, vignettes, narratives, diaries, monologues,
personal responses) in a way that
offers an audience:
The learner will show a personal reaction to the text with a sense
of how that comes from careful consideration of the text. (Journals )
5.01 Read and analyze
various literary works by:
producing creative responses that follow
the conventions of a specific genre and using appropriate literary devices
for that genre. (Student Presentations)
5.02 Demonstrating increasing comprehension and ability to respond
personally to texts by selecting and exploring a wide range of genres in
this case the epic poem. (Student Presentations)
2.02 Explain commonly used terms and concepts that:
The student will be able to clearly state the subject to be defined
and be able to classify terms and identify distinguishing characteristics
in an organized manner with efficient details. (Student Presentations)
Standard Course of Study Computer Competency Goal for 9th Grade students:
Competency Goal 4 The learner will explore and use research process to meet information needs.
4.09 Produce and present findings in various formats (print, and web based)
4.10 Evaluate the product.
5.06 Apply fair use copyright guidelines (Copyright Law, P.L. 94-553) in all projects.
This lesson is evaluation lesson because students are presenting their
findings through the print form of their web site, and other students and
myself will use my knowledge to evaluate what they have turned in.
Materials needed are student Journals, SUP board, Textbook
Elements of Literature, Overhead, overhead pens, Clean Overhead Sheets, Classroom computer with
sign up sheet, Web site Rubric, and Student Projects.
3. Teacher Input
This time would be used to give students information and directions
on how to proceed with the Odyssey presentations of research.
4. Guided Practice
Students present research on the Odyssey to a group, then they turn
in their web site print out with the three evaluations of team mates to me,
so I may evaluate. This will be done in groups of four with each person
taking a turn.
Students meet and do peer editing with a rubric, so they can discuss
what they are learning and their ideas for improving their individual web
sites.
5. Independent Practice
Students take time to absorb the new information, by having quiet time to make notes on what they want to improve.
6. Closure
Go over objectives of the day.
Today we have practiced being the evaluator of others work.
Today we have strengthened our presentation skills as we have presented work.
Today we have used our energies as a group to improve each other's final products.
Today we have integrated what we have done, and made notes to improve our future products..
Informal Question and Answer time with Students
Question of the Day and your journal question for tomorrow is:
Comparison- Compare what you have learned about the Odyssey to
what you originally knew? How is your knowledge the same and how is it different.
This Lesson Plan represents a basic outline of what will be covered during
the Eighteenth day. As with any lesson, this is a work in progress and
will be altered as need arises. All ideas present come from many years
of study as a college student and working professional, any thoughts expressed
here came from my brain and the knowledge I have gained.
Bibliography: I am using this textbook in my unit plan.
Some ideas used in my lesson plans sprung from notes in the teachers edition.
