Answer Key for Comparison Exercise



Each word below represents a zero or a one depending upon the category it fits in.  To demonstrate how a computers mind work as a class decide which ones are zero and which ones are one and see what the computer is saying.   After you identify a zero and a one give your best estimate of what each one means.


Link   (0) is a underlined line of text that when clicked on takes you to another page on the web.

Homer  (1) Author of the Iliad and the Odyssey.

Geocities (0) is a search engine.  With search words it is a way that the web can find documents or web pages.  It is also a place that web sites can be purchased for free, and it will be the web site we will be using for our class page.

Troy  (1) is a place of war between Trojans and Greeks over trade routes and jealousy of King Menalous.  His wife was kidnapped by Paris and was having an affair.

Epic (1) A large narrative poem that tells of the adventures of heroes who is someway embody the values of their civilization.

Save As (0) The command used the first time you want to save a document to a disc, your hard drive, a zip disk or a cd-rom.

Netscape Communicator (0) It is the application of netscape that enables you to edit web pages and write html documents.

Theme (1) In the Odyssey the theme is a long journey that is both external and internal.  By itself theme is the main idea of the story.  What the story is trying to get across to its reader.

Edit Page (0) Is the command used when changing a web page from Netscape or Explorer view mode of the internet to Composer which is the edit mode of the internet.

Aegean Sea (1) is the trade route near Greece. This is the main gain that winning the Trojan war would have had because owning the trade route meant owning the power.

Achilles (1)  is the Hero of the Iliad and the main focus in that epic.  He did not want to die young, and he had internal conflict between being a good warrior and giving up his life and living life to its fullest by not fighting and living a long quiet life.  He chooses to die and fight.  He is known for his heel.

Zip disk (0)  is a 100 MB capacity with high reliability.  This is a good way to store large projects like multi-media presentations, graphics, spreadsheets, music, or games.

3 ½ inch floppy (0) is used to store information and the high density holds 1.44 MB and the double holds .72 Megabytes.  It is magnetic and can be inserted or removed from the drive.

Odysseus (1) is the Hero of the Odyssey and the main focus in that epic.  He did not want to go to war, but when he pretended to be crazy the military through his baby in front of a plow.  To save his child he snapped to his senses and rescued his baby, therefore they knew he was sane and he had to go to war.  He is known for his brains and his Braun.

Hero (1) a person with extraordinary attributes.  They were usually classified somewhere between ordinary men and the Gods.

Table (0) a box within a document.  That can be used to present information in a more orderly or organized manner.

Jpg (0) it is how a picture is stored when saved. 

Penelope (1) a faithful woman to her husband who took care of her house and home while Odysseus tried to make it home.  She dodged suitors by working on a cloth for Odysseus burial.  She would finish it and then unravel it to buy time for his return

Trojan Horse (1) This is the horse that Odysseus loaded the greeks into.  They offered it as a gift of peace to the trojans when all the while they were planning to attack once within there gates.  This ended the war, and this gave victory to the Greeks.  This is where the phrase beware of Greeks bearing gifts came about.

Wftp or ftp  (0) It means file transfer protocol and it is the application used to download data to the web.
