| Vampires are not so much a race of their own genetically speaking but more fo a former human inflicted with a virus, and therefore not a demon. They are a separate race, however, as they can be born vampires. | ||||||||||
| Category: Dark creature Level: Major Danger: High to medium. Medium as far as humans and non-light creatures are concerned. Physical strength: Tough and strong, though they rarely appear to be either. Immunities: Lycanthropy, all minor demonic bites, some immunity to charms and similar minor spells and some poisons, diseases and illnesses. Strengths: As good as perfect immune system; a vampire never grows ill under normal circumstances. Regeneration; they are capable of regrowing complete limbs if given the time, injuries to vital organs heals faster than other, the wound must be kept clean or the regeneration will come to a halt. Regeneration is also dependant on the health of a vampire - a vampire who is sick and thus has not consumed blood for a quite some time is unlikely to regenerate. Eternal youth: A vampire will cease to age around the age of 25, changed vampires cease to age but do not grow younger. Weaknesses: Must consume blood on a regular basis, if this is not done immune system will slowly begin to fail and the vampire may become sick and regeneration abilities are slowed down. Regular food may be consumed but it does not work as a substitute for blood. Magical power: Minor word magic, if any. It is highly unusual that a vampire possess magical power to begin with. Origin: Godmade - originally a curse. The god Athanasius and the goddess Morana have the power to turn creatures into vampires. Expected age: Immortal, but can be slain. Vampires do not have natural deaths as old age and sickness are not in their nature, and therefore either commit suicide or die in violent accidents if they are not murdered. Due to their though nature and regeneration they are difficult to kill, and the only way one can guarantee their death is if one either cut off the head or remove the heart. Becoming: Vampires are originally godmade, but may be both born and made. Only born vampires are able to turn others and only humans may be turned into a vampire. In order for a human to be made into a vampire the individual must be bitten by a vampire, not fed upon, and consume some of the vampire's blood. This is very rarely done. Creatures who may reproduce with them: Humans, lake kelpies (rare), werewolves (rare), some demons (rare), elves (extremely rare). Vampires rarely breed with other races, both due to unwillingness on both parts to have children together and as vampires have a low fertility rate to begin with. Vampires have very low numbers of offspring by their nature, this is especially true for male vampires. Appearance: Humanoid, can easily be mistaken for a human as they do not bear any obvious sign which betrays them. They do have prominent canines, but not overly so. While it is generally believed that they do not have a reflection that is mostly due to a misinterpretation of an old song and completely false. Hybrids, advantages: A half vampire is more likely to possess magical powers than a vampire, but it is still unlikely and more often than not they only have highly limited abilities. Hybrids, disadvantages: They do not always gain the abilities which are considered typical traits for a vampire: regeneration, immune system and eternal youth. Some are granted all, some a few and others none. Half vampires are often sterile, this is especially true for males, and it is one of the reasons why vampires rarely breed with other races. Acceptance in society: More often than not high, but it is relative. They are considered to be something between humans and demons. They are mainly accepted because they live so long that they have had plenty of time to make their way into important positions and are often nobles, thus not in a position the average human would dare to threaten. They are also considered to be able to control their urges better than the werewolf. Likely profession: Due to lack of magical abilities but the advantage of physical strength vampires are often forced to defend themselves with brute strength, which makes them ideal warriors. They often make good fighters as they are stronger than a human of the same size, and it is not rare to have at least one vampire involved in a war, no matter the races involved. This is also partially due to the easy acess to blood, and it is generally accepted if the individual they are feeding on is either an enemy or dying.
