“What was so urgent
that you had to haul us from the mall?” Joey asked as the four guys walked
into JC's hospital room. “I almost got that girl to talk to me.”
“She didn’t like you,” Lance said.
“She was after me.”
“No, she was after me,” Chris shouted.
“Guys!” JC looked very impatient.
“What?” Chris asked.
“I called you guys here cause I need
a favour.”
“And what would that be?” Justin asked.
“Nothing that you guys will have trouble
with,” JC said. It wasn’t like he was going to ask them to do something drastic
like jump off a building or anything. “I need you to go down to the jewellery
store.”
“Why the jewellery store?” Chris asked.
JC picked at the covers of the blanket.
“To pick up my order.”
“Your order of what?” Lance asked.
Justin rolled his eyes for effect.
“Jewellery, duh.”
“Guys, I'm being serious here! I need
you to down there and pick up my order, that's it,” JC said getting a little
annoyed.
“Well, if we do this, don't you think
we should know what we're picking up?” Chris said.
“Well.” JC paused, looking from one
guy to another. “Engagement ring,” he coughed out.
All Joey managed to get what ‘ring.’
All Lance could understand was ‘gage.’
Justin was beaming with pride. He
knew exactly what JC said.
“What did you say?” Lance asked. Justin
smirked.
JC and Justin shared a look.
“Engagement ring,” Justin said.
“Engagement ring?” Chris repeated.
“Yes.” JC no longer looked annoyed.
He was grinning from ear to ear. “I’m going to propose to Emma once I get
out of this stupid place.”
Joey gave him a strange look. “But
you guys broke up.”
JC hadn’t told anyone about him and
Emma getting back together. No one knew but themselves.
JC smiled. “Well we kinda...um got
back together.”
“Really? That's great,” Lance said.
“I never thought she'd take you back.”
JC shrugged. “I didn’t either. But
she did.”
“I knew,” Justin said proudly. “She
took care of you so well and wouldn't leave your side.”
JC rubbed his forehead, where there
was a huge bandage from the impact of him getting hit by the jeep. “I’m just
glad we’re back together. I missed her like crazy.”
Lance glanced at his watch. “We better
go now. The store closes in a few hours.”
---A Few Hours Later---
The guys came back with a bag from
the jewellery store. Justin handed it to JC. He took it out and looked inside
the blue velvet box and smiled, then put it in the drawer beside his bed.
“Thanks guys.” JC laid his back against
the pillow. He looked relieved.
“So do you know when you're getting
out of here?” Chris asked.
“Yeah , it better be soon cause in
a few months we have to be back on the road,” Joey said.
JC looked at him. “You can’t be serious.”
It was still too soon. His wounds were still healing and it was still hard
for him to walk without support. “I want to propose before we go back out
on tour again,” he said.
“Why don't you just ask Emma or one
of the other doctors?” Justin suggested.
“Ask me about what?” Even though her
shift was over, Emma still had on her uniform.
“Do you know when JC is getting out
of here?” Chris asked after a few moments silence.
“Actually,” she said, “that’s why
I’m here.”
“Well?” Joey said. “When?”
“Tomorrow.”
JC smiled brighter. “Really? Great,
I just want to go home.”
“Well you can tomorrow. Have a nice
evening.”
“Emma?” JC spoke up. His back was
aching and so was his head, so he didn’t want to talk too much.
“Yeah?”
“Can you pick me up tomorrow? There's
something I'd like to talk to you about.” JC kept his smile hidden.
“Sure, it's my day off. I'll be here
around 10, is that okay?”
“That’s fine,” he said, then he pouted.
“Could I have a kiss goodnight?”
Emma walked over to his bed and gave
him a nice and short kiss on the lips. “Goodnight JC.”
She walked to the door and soon was
gone. JC didn’t say another word. His eyes closed again, and this time he
had a content smile on his face.
Things were definitely looking brighter.
